I noticed that sugar is much more addictive to a diabetic. Both my dad and grandma were diabetic, I also had a roommate who was. They struggled daily, one even went blind, so I decided that since it’s possible I could develop diabetes that I should avoid sugar. I do not regret it.
About a week before Easter, 1970, the Carol Burnett Show did a salute to Disney including a sketch in which Carol played Mary Poppins’ sister, tasked with taking care of two children AND their grandfather (probably Harvey Korman). While singing “A Spoonful of Sugar” she rhythmically shoveled sugar into his mouth, then asked, “By the way, what are you taking medicine for?” “Diabetes!”, collapsing.
The song, “A Spoonful of Sugar” written by Robert Sherman of the Sherman Brothers was inspired by Robert’s son telling him that he was given a polio vaccine with a sugar cube.

Why does sugar get such a bad rap? Who stood by you when things didn’t go as planned in your life? Who was there to comfort you? It wasn’t broccoli!

Sugar may not be great for us, but high fructose corn syrup is the true evil.
