The problem with allowing an AI chat bot write your essays for you is that they don’t know when they’re wrong. If you don’t know enough about the subject the essay is about, you could be in a world of trouble with your teacher.
Maria Mitchell was an American astronomer, librarian, naturalist, and educator. In 1847, she discovered a comet later known as “Miss Mitchell’s Comet” in her honor.
Mitchell was the first internationally known woman to work as both a professional astronomer and a professor of astronomy after accepting a position at Vassar College in 1865. She was also the first woman elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Interesting way to remember that August 1 was the anniversary of Maria Mitchell’s birthday. That AI program seems almost like a virtual version of Bernice, they have the same sarcasm. If one day Luann decides she doesn’t want her around anymore, Bernice could replace her with that chatbot.
A chat bot wrote a report of a Georgetown U professor being accused of sexually harassing a student on an Alaska trip, stating a Washington Post article as reference.
Funny thing, he’s never sexually harassed a student, the trip never happened, no article was ever written and he’s never taught at Georgetown.
Chatbots are word predictors and just make stuff up, and the experts say there’s no way to fix it. Seems to me like send a text just by hitting the next suggested words. They can be really funny texts.
This is a humorous take on AI, but it’s already taken over. The issue is joined, but I neither am afraid of AI as some who figure the Terminator, nor so sanguine not to worry about it uneasily, nevertheless. As a former community college teacher though, grading Lu’s paper is a largely subjective exercise, provided it was content, and not grammar oriented, and no matter how smart tools, which AI are collectively, does not have the capacity to be subjective. No gut.
I get it, that AI allegedly can create papers that are “almost,” or, “better,” than we can. But, even at Pitts JC, wouldn’t the instructors be on the look out for papers created by that AI?
Reminds me of my first year in college when we were all required to live in dorms. A financially privileged woman hired a grad student to write her English essay. T.A. didn’t think it sounded like student so quizzed her on it— student hadn’t even read essay so couldn’t answer even basic questions.
She explained facts of Life to T.A. that she had money so would always be the boss hiring others to do the work. Sadly, student flunked out after first semester.
For the chatbot to be able to write “as it would be written by [Luann]”, it would have to have access to a number of essays that were actually written by Luann.
Time to work on your own writing (and research) skills Luann. Besides isn’t there some sort of program teachers can use to sift out the computer generated reports?
The Count: Chatbot…Who is the Woman all men want (though few are worthy) and all women want to be like (and some men, too, not that there’s anything wrong with that)?

Chatbot: Duh… Fabulous Ann❤️Eiffel

The Count: Yeah, Captain Obvious soft ball questions, Chatzilla, Brah. Thanks for the laffs :) And to all you Count fans out there… TTFN… toss a few extra $$ in the collection plate at church and have a Peachy Keen Ann❤️Eiffel Count… OUT
someone added a ‘like’ underneath Count Olaf’s message which, as far as i’m concerned, is just an AI driven response. If you read them they mostly makes no sense. The algorithm probably designs the response to just repeat certain key words in the panels making sure to include Ann Eiffel several times along with lots of red hearts.

“Yup”, from a computer? Must be a teenager, since it doesn’t show more respect than that.

“Chatbot, write a 500 word essay for me as if it were written by Gunther,” should have been the request. Would have gotten a higher grade.

If things go this way with AI, can see many lawyers making lots of $$$$ with lawsuits.

Chatbot generated essays are usually pretty terrible, to be honest. Strong start, generally, but they get progressively more erratic as they go.
