The best (fairest) curve formula ever was the one my teacher used: Take the square root of your grade and multiply by 10. That’s your new grade. We all loved it. And since I only got 100s it never made any difference to me!
I had a professor in an Applied Psychology class in college who told us all that he graded on the curve. When it was time for final exams, he gave us a test, which was unexpectedly easy, especially after the very difficult mid-term exam. The high score was 100, (I got a 98 because I didn’t pay enough attention to the question, missing the question was my fault) the low score was a 90. When the results were posted, I received a B and the people who had scored a 90 were given and F.
When he was confronted about it, he declared he told us he graded on the curve. Most of the class was up in arms and we descended on the Dean’s office en masse. The next day, our grades were changed to an A. The professor apparently had been chastised severely. Fortunately I never had another class under him again. To this day I have to wonder if he was up to something.
A few years ago, I was enrolled in an on-line college science course. I had the highest grade on one of the last exams which was D- out of about 2 dozen students. The rest failed. It was an undergraduate level course but the instructor treated it as PhD level course. I contacted him and strongly encouraged him to grade on the curve as it was obvious we weren’t understanding what he was presenting! Fortunately, he did.

Birds can navigate long distances. Just maybe, in the Charlie Brown universe, they can do math too!

And now you’re really going to have to pass that next test, Patty. Being dumber than Woodstock is almost as bad as being dumber than Snoopy.

Is this how you repay Woodstock for providing the music for your ice skating routine…www.youtube(dot)com/watch?v=yH_RlC6Ahe8

I wouldn’t bet on that, Patty. I think Woodstock is a pretty smart bird.

Being second lowest on the curve doesn’t mean you’ll pass, Patty.

I never thought too much about grades at that age! I just went to please my mom and grandparents. Maybe that’s why earned two degrees, lol!
