Cold turkey? I’d be thinking of a club sandwich with turkey, bacon, tomato, mayo (and lettuce if you like it). A side of fries and coleslaw. Yep, cold turkey!
“Oh, by the way, Jean, I was thinking about having an affair with someone… Are you interested? There’s a ratty motel not too far off the 401, it’s far enough away that no one will recognize us.… Whaddya say to makin’ some whoopee on our lunch break?”
That’s the big beef about being a couple. There are some people who just have to have the B-12 and protein that’s in meat and some that can do without it.
Let the man eat what he wants. He’s his own person. You shouldn’t have to will others to conform to your dietary standards. Good luck controlling that.
The spousal unit & I have very different tastes when it comes to food. When home, I eat whatever she puts on the table. When i’m away from home, I eat what I like. My food philosophy is “Never complain about something you didn’t pay for or make”
To take the unpopular position, I can somewhat see Elly’s point of view. This does not mean I am going to force everybody else to adopt my lifestyle.
I was at an all-you-can-eat restaurant one night and never saw so many fat people in one location. Got me to thinking that while tobacco is on the decline, there are going to be three serious threats to health in the 21st Century: drug abuse, extramarital sex, and gluttony.
I have been pretty much vegetarian several times in my life because of various reasons, and it can be just fine up to a point, but I would never agree to a vegetarian only diet if I could afford meat at least on occasion or wasn’t living in a place where it wasn’t socially acceptable.
I remember a Dennis The Menace comic book where his Mom decided she needed to lose weight. Why, God only knows. We should all be as thin as Alice Mitchell. But no, she goes on a grapefruit diet and expects Dennis & Dad to go on it with her. Boy, did they cheat. Dennis went to his friend Gina’s house for pizza. Dad stopped at the hot dog stand on the way to work, had donuts with his morning coffee at the office, and ate a 3-course lunch. Of course, these days, putting a kid Dennis’s age on a grapefruit only diet would get CPS called on you.
For anyone thinking about adopting a plant based diet I suggest slowly easing into it. Replace items in your normal diet one by one getting use to it before moving on. So maybe start using oat or soy milk instead of cow’s milk, or choose one day a week when you don’t eat meat for dinner, etc…. Suddenly deciding to stop eating meat all at once is typically a recipe for failure while easing into it, if you keep with it, will have you six months wondering what you were so worried about or why you liked meat to begin with.
Elly is Canadian. Canadians think more about the greater good than they do about individual needs or wants. Elly is demanding her family pull together, eat healthy and stop being a drain on the Canadian healthcare system.

Ah! He did agree to try. However, he doesn’t say that he swore he would never never never return to eating meat.

I still don’t get why he can’t just tell her he tried, but doesn’t like it…

Elly needs to look up the word “try” in the dictionary.

How about some Brussel Sprouts with meatloaf and a side order of curly fries with gravy?
Jumbo meatball sub with onions? Onions are veggies, right?

Now, was this Lynn’s intended punchline for the vegetarian story arc all along, or is it going to continue?

You know what they say. “Happy wife, happy life.”
Because nothing rhymes with “husband”….

EVERYONE, except Elly I guess, knows you NEVER, EVER go cold turkey! John, as a DOCTOR, should know this! Doing so almost guarantees a relapse.

I never understood how John and this Ted character could stay friends until the end.
Ted was an unrepentant bachelor tomcat,John’s exact opposite. After Liz had grown up, Ted didn’t recognize her and tried to pick her up in a bar.
Not wanting her Dad to end up in jail for assault, she didn’t tell him.

I stopped eating Thanksgiving leftovers.
I quit cold turkey.

Maybe Elly does not want this scenario in the future…
Tombstone: R.I.P. John Patterson.
Born 7 lbs. 8 oz.
Died 349 lbs. 1 oz.
Elly, Michael, Elizabeth and April are all older and wearing black, standing by an open grave
Elly{sobbing}: I wish they never invented fast food!
John’s corpse is so heavy it needs to be lowered by crane
Crane operator: Something is wrong here, get out of the way, it is going to go!
Cable carrying John’s casket breaks, falling atop entire Patterson family, killing them all
