When my aunt and uncle were training their current dog they hung a loop with little bells attached to it around the doorknob and trained him to ring the bells. It was ingenious really. Encouraging a dog to bark more often rather than less sounds annoying and discourteous to the neighbors.

If you’d just trim his nails, there wouldn’t be any scratches.

Uhm… if you’re trying to train him to bark when he wants to go outside… shouldn’t the scratches on the door be on the INSIDE?

From Lynn’s Comments: This strip’s punch line became the title for the collection book in which this story appeared.

So, if he is inside, wanting to go out, why are the scratches on the outside of the door???

Yet more proof that even if I weren’t still slightly nervous around dogs, I wouldn’t have the patience for one!
