Hopefully, like kittens, having multiple ferrets means they can entertain each other rather than needing you for nonstop entertainment support. At 3 AM.
My guess is that Sophie won’t be all that broken hearted. I get the feeling that she’ll get over it quickly. Maybe along the lines of, “It was great, I’ll always remember him fondly, I will use this relationship as inspiration,” etc. Perhaps now Gutter, properly inspired himself, will begin bringing pieces to her that he thinks she will be able to use in her art. Poor Sophie’s Woman! “How on earth did this get in the house?”
Okay that burn zing high five is adorable. And the question is who. Whoever it is I hope their still close as we never really got to know rainbow that well. Or sneak attack.. or one I didn’t give a nickname.
Two ferrets will generally cause only half the trouble one ferret causes because they keep each other entertained and somehow less likely to seek forbidden mischief. …You’d think the mischief would be additive, multiplicative or exponential, but it doesn’t seem to work out that way. I don’t know how this plays out with larger numbers of mischievous mustelids. Does the effect asymptote out at some point? Or with greater numbers, does it become a Ferret Woodstock or Burning Man- style event, with some ferrets always awake and active? Can anyone weigh in on this?
Another compelling question: Will Tommy and Sophie’s woman ever get that ferret port-a-potty stink out of the corners of the room? Or will Sophie continue to somehow sense “His” ineffable aura in the air for years to come?
Six cats is a lot. In my case it wasn’t exactly a choice as much as an effect of the pandemic. We were happily abiding with three cats (one of whom hated all the other animals – she had ISSUES) and two dogs when the before time ended. Collage student daughter moved home with her two cats – her male loved our recently adopted 1 yr old male, her female hated all the resident animals. A year later, son and his dog moved out. Then we (really I) emergency fostered a 1 yo male – nearly identical to the now 2 yo male (both black with small lockets). I really did try to get the foster adopted, but after 5 weeks hubby told him is was fitting in so well that I could adopt him if I wanted to, up to that point hubby had been firmly against adding another cat to the clowder. As the director of the rescue I volunteer for says, we foster won. Six cats was a bit chaotic, but we survived.
Five cats, one dog. Only one of them is truly insane (yes, I’m looking at you, Holmes!).
Now for the MMPPI – Midwest Multiphasic Pet Personality Index
Mittens – Eighteen people year old Queen of the clowder. Pretty mellow now, but definitely ruled with an iron paw when she was younger.
Holly Bear is a total diva who is not really interested in associating with the others. Give her a window and a soft pillow, and she’s cool. She also demands that she be brushed for a few minutes before bed each night.
Belle – The sweetest cat. She is constantly meowing updates about the clowder and making sure we know what is going on. A significant purr motor is installed.
Hamilton A Cat—This is the total cat definition of ‘chill.’ Give him a sunspot, and he’s cool for an afternoon. He is by far the cat with the most voracious appetite. He still likes to show up on the counter when I am cooking.
Holmes — Insanity in an orange catsuit. Take 25% of the God Loki, 25% of a poltergeist, 25% of a Bohemian, 24% of hippie, and 1% of a cute orange snuggle bunny—add a dash of uncertainty and mix it all together. Half bake and serve.
I am about 25 miles from the path of Totality. We’ll see what it is like when 99% of the sun is blotted out. In 2017, I was in the path of Totality – that was really weird to see. What will the eclipse be like where you are? Currently, we have high Cirrus clouds. I hope they don’t thicken up.
What does it say about me that when I saw Tommy’s “ZING” response my only thought was of some lovely, highly preserved, Zingers! LOL That, of course, is a rhetorical question.
OT: Bad News at TinyKittens (not cat-related)Shelly, founder and snuggler-in-chief of TinyKittens, told us yesterday why she’d been absent for over a month. Her sister passed on the 3rd, after a month-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
(I wanted to put the body of this in a reply. GC wouldn’t let those attempts post)
Imagining a lovelorn Sophie binge-watching “Our IX Lives” and “Purride and Purrejudice” while mechanically eating a whole bag of Kitty Num-Nums. How can Georgia cause us to be so concerned about the love life of a cartoon cat?
However, good news is the senior resident’s amazing sister swooped up in her amazing van and took the senior resident AWAAAAAAYYYY!!! for a visit for several days. (She said the roads she took to get here, you couldn’t see a darn thing.)
This afternoon looks like Star Trek movies with my cousin if we can coordinate things.
Just saw the eclipse in Houston — almost total cloud cover but it peaked out in between for a few seconds at a time. Turns out 94% is just like a cloudy day. But fabulous and I could hear the shouts from the middle school half a block away.
I’m a bit concerned about the ferrets. What if the adopter only wants them to play ferret-leggings and ferret down your trousers? These are real games, by the way.
A four ferret adoption you say… Me thinks Dr Scuttles may know more about this than he is letting on. I can just see him emerging from his lair in his terrifying ferret draw chariot, preparing to reek who knows what on who knows whom.

I’d say, in both instances, it’s more of a calling than a choice. LOL I know with my two girls it wasn’t so much a choice as a command, from them.

OK Gutter, the ferret impediment is removed. Time to make a gift of the best trash you can find for Sophie.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the oPyramid Literary Festival
Puckmosis: Thank you, Dooky, Tinker, Evers, and Chance for your Basic Ball Poetry Reading.
Elvis-Anum: Personally, I think that that Casey guy was a fool.
Dooky: He learned from that, though.
Tinker: Yeah, and now he’s manager for the Punn State Basic Ball team.
Puck: And now, Elvis-Anum will ascend the tapestry to read etiquette tips from Miss Demeanor’s Guide to How to Act.
Lupinium: How is he going to get up there?
Beatrixia: Don’t worry we have it covered.
Elvis Climbs up the Hidden Staircase
Bea: Wally, Iron Glove, and Iggy got together with Tillie, Adobe, Arachna, and Soph to create a staircase, together with a seat.
Sometime Later
Elvis: And so, as Miss Demeanor states, Good Manners Never Go Out of Style.

In Honor of Today’s Celestial Event
(Elvis) Turn around!
(Puck) Every now and then there is an unusual occurrence when the moon is positioned right in the sky!
(Goldie:) Turn around!
(Puck) Every now and then something happens we can’t look at, but it is much too dangerous to try!
(Lupin) Turn around!
(Puck) Every now and then something needs documentation and I am the best one to provide!
(Iggy) Turn around!
(Puck) Every now and then I need my markers and paper, and A a bit of time to write!
(Ora Zella) Turn around, Papa!
(Puck) Every now and then I make a chart!
And I need to draw it now!
And this event is once in nine lifetimes!
And I have my pen and inks!
And I’ll post it for every one to see!
A celestial event I will document now!
It’s gonna be dark as night!
…….
What I want to do is a labor of love
Ora, please don’t tear it apart!
This is what I do
A Total Eclipse on the chart!
