There might come a time, Calvin, when you have to tell your parents, channeling Groucho: “Those are my principles, and if you don’t like them… well, I have others.”
I had a stint in solitary confinement and while I was there, I came to the conclusion that when all the trivial things in life are stripped away, the only thing we have left is ourselves and each other.
Looking out for number one is a narrow minded, conservative selfish principle. A Liberal knows that looking out for everyone benefits everyone. No need to worry about number one. It comes naturally. The ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) garbage is baloney.
When the U.S. armed, supplied and manned the allies in WW2 bringing victory, we had the 19th rated armed forces in the world. 6 years later we were far and away Number One. Then, using the ‘Marshall Plan’, the U.S rebuilt the world, both the defeated and our allies. That made us ‘number one’ to this day. Those we rebuilt simply pushed us up higher.
But the short-sighted and narrow minded selfish conservative can never see anything more than Me!
