Well… it was more of a gradual withdrawal… I couldn’t buy everything I wanted, so I put the issue off a week… and another week… and then the next issue came out, and I realized I didn’t miss the story.
Then libraries started shelving graphic novels, so I stopped dumpster diving behind the newsstand, picking up the stripped comics.
Before that, I would carry different disguises, so I could “read for free” at newsstands. A friend intervened when she caught me using her makeup. She did think the dress was cute, though.
Now I am a contributing member of society. I attend a support group once a week, my parole officer says I’m one of his best clients, and I still haven’t seen the new Wolverine movie.
Mary Worth, originally “Apple Mary”,
an impoverished woman selling apples on the street during the Great Depression to support herself and her young grandson.
Doing pretty good for a woman over 100!
Wonder what ever happened to the grandson?
He would have been the right age to serve during WWII.

I would gladly sell body parts to buy comics. Well, not mine of course, I mean let’s not get crazy.
