Here in northernmost Maine we’ve hardly had any snow this year and the daytime temperatures are still in the thirties and forties. It’s hard to believe the lake in front of me will be frozen over in five weeks and they’ll be putting out ice fishing shacks by January.
Let’s see. . . Janis is going to have a nice turkey dinner, then shop for Christmas gifts for her loved ones, then adorn her house and a tree for Christmas, and then see the kids during the holidays….yet she finds something to gripe about. I’m thinking she’s forgotten the “Thanks” in Thanksgiving and needs a reality check to realize how fortunate she really is.
Who even knows how many days are between holidays? I know, I know, some others do this, but it sure completely escapes the attention of plenty of other-others . .
On my walk down to town today – there must have been a dozen houses with Christmas lights up – everyone is advertising Black Friday deals yet we don’t have Thanks Giving here (sales used to start Boxing Day, usually 26th Dec) – Turkeys get a reprieve until Christmas here – well the ones not frozen before then (which is likely most).
I hate when Thanksgiving is this late. I said screw it and put my Christmas tree up already. We’re traveling for Thanksgiving anyway, so no one is eating turkey by the light of my tree.
We went out Monday to the Walmart store near us (which is MUCH smaller than elsewhere) and then finding nothing we needed we drove out to the next county to a much larger Walmart (in between the two there is a “SuperWalmart” – but the one we went to in the next county is the biggest one on the Island, even though it is not a “Super”). Even there we had trouble finding food items – and most of them were not Thanksgiving related. Ended up stopping at a Walmart Neighborhood Market (supermarket) to find the last of what we were looking for. We had bought the turkey first at a local chain fancy farm supermarket and brought it home to the fridge before heading out for all of this.
We used to have both families for Thanksgiving as it is the only “family” holiday both families wanted us for (I am Jewish, he is Catholic all other similar family holidays are religion related) but since we had bedbug some years ago we stopped having anyone in the house.
So I cook a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the two of us and have a lot of leftovers. I have to check if any of last year’s are still in there.

It’s a calendar rule. This is as late as Turkey Day can be but it can’t possibly be the first time it has happened.

Not when you cook the turkey on the second Monday of October

Amazing logic?

I do this to people all the time. Suddenly give them the end of the discussion I’ve been having in my head.

What was Arlo thinking about that made him feel so guilty?

Cry Havoc and Let Loose the Hounds of War!! The chaos of the holidays is always a thrill.

Whats the problem?

The fact is that Janice was in the middle of a conversation with herself and Arlo only heard the end and has no idea what she is talking about

Certainly glad I have done no shopping, Christmas cards or pretty much anything…

Canada celebrates Thanksgiving a month earlier than the US of A. We get the tender young turkeys and give the US “the old bird”!

Arlo is innocent in this case!

Janis sure gets upset a lot over trivial things. She can start doing Christmas things anytime she wants. Many people have decorations up already.

Eh, according to Hallmark movies it’s really just FallOweenGivingMas anyway.

On Nov 1st a local radio station started 24/7 Christmas and on Nov 18th a second one joined in. :(

I’m not sure I understand why Janis is so upset

I just roll with it. We use the same routine every year anyway. It works well, so why change it.

I always assume she’s blaming me for something, too, Arlo.

Wow, reality check on my part! Retired, I don’t keep track of days or numbers.

Not sure why Arlo is acting so defensive. It’s not like Janis caught him sitting on the couch ala Al Bundy..
