I wonder what one needs to become a critic: film, tv, dining, travel, etc….

    Extremely racist.

In real life, Obi-Wannabe-Kenobi would be on welfare and more likely to be Black. If a white kid were to say, “must be nice to be Black” to the man who gets paid without doing any work, the white comic strip cartoonist would lose his job and be made an example of as a racist and a bigot.

    Double standards suck.

    Unless…

…that was the whole point of the comic. There was an episode of Star Trek once where the mostly-straight viewers get to see an andodogenous alien species with evolutionary throw-backs who were male and female. These throwbacks had to be brain-washed back into androgeny, and the audience sympathized. Of course, the real point was to show the difficulty of being gay in a straight world, but mixed it up for sympathy.

Maybe the author is criticizing lazy folks on welfare, but mixing up the races so that he can express it in public.

The point of this strip was that nerds are more likely to be white and only white parents would give them that kind of support into adulthood.

Now, that’s pretty narrow-minded, but even more so is saying that people on welfare are more likely to be black (check the statistics).

Reminds me of that great series of skits that Eddie Murphy did back on Saturday Night LIve. He’d put on a white-guy disguise and find out the hidden truth of what it was like to be white.

For instance, he went into a bank and asked for a loan. Black loan officer is like, “Well, what do you have for collateral?” White Eddie says “Nothing.” Loan officer is indignant: “You can’t have a loan without collateral! But then his boss, another white guy, puts his head in the room: “I’ll take care of this, Simpson.” He pulls white Eddie into his office and says, “Sorry about that. Of course you can have a loan,” and then claps him on the back. “We’re all in it together.”
