If they live up north, surely they have a gas stove with pilots that can be lit manually. I grew up in the country, where a good snow/ice storm could knock the power out for days. Everybody had a gas stove, and you didn’t have to worry about the food going bad, cause you just put in in a box and set it on the back porch. Nature’s refrigerator.
