I like making an open-faced sugar sandwich after frying the bread. Add some cinnamon too.

Never heard of this until I saw an episode of the old TV show, “Family Affair.” Bufffy got to be friends with some poor kids and when they asked the mom for bread and butter for a snack, she said they were out of butter so the kids asked for bread and sugar.
