Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for May 18, 1990

Transcript:
Calvin: Hey Hobbes, what's a "paper tiger"? Hobbes: It's like a paper boy. You know, a tiger with a newspaper route. Calvin: Oh. This book makes no sense at all.
If we go off the assumption that Hobbes is merely a figment of Calvin’s imagination, then we can see that Calvin’s irritation with homework and school comes from his ability to make abstract connections to explain the world, which he gets from his dad.

It’s the Chinese version of " it’s bark is worse than its bite". Something that looks worse then it actually is.

Perhaps Calvin is at that awkward age—too smart for kid’s books; too inexperienced for adult books.
