We don’t live in a democracy. We live in a Representative Republic. The problem is that those we send to Washington to represent us have forgotten who it is that they represent. And that goes for both parties.
We are supposed to be in both. Democracy (literally people rule) favors the majority but guarantees those pesky unalienable rights to the minority (otherwise would be polyarchy, or as the founders called it, “the mob”). Republic refers to the use of representatives to work out the details. At least you are right about the fatal flaw of buying representatives once elected. We even use the euphemism of “campaign contributions” for what is outright bribery.
This is the most level headed political discussion I have seen in comics comment or anywhere ever. What planet are you guys from? I live on Earth, unfortunately.
