I recall a tale from the early times. Two young hunters were out in the forest one day when they came upon a dragonfly stuck in the mud. Now their people believed that if you saved a dragonfly it would grant the rescuer a wish, so they pulled the dragonfly from the mud. Once freed the dragonfly said “I thank you, and will grant you each one wish.”One hunter thought for a moment and then said “I wish to be the smartest man ever.” With a flash of the dragonfly wings “Now you are.” And to other hunter “What is your wish?” The second hunter replied “I wish to be smarter than him.”Another flash of the wings, “Now you are Woman.”
You should have seen my mighty feats of courage and strength when I almost conquered the spider with a young (/) screaming crowd (1) of half naked native women screaming at my bravery. Such tales iof daring do have not been seen since B.C.
Reminds me of an old Tubleweeds strip where Limpid Lizard goes in search of buffalo to make buffalo robes for the Chief’s daughter. He returns only to offer her chipmunk pelt doilies.
Either the proofreader was on vacation or the planned joke was changed in mid-strip. I prefer to think the plan was …“Alas, the cunning stealthy hunter….” with after the “death or glory” panel we have a raptor returning the said mighty hunter to the Fat Broad. Meatier soup.

“Alas, the stealthy hunter”? (panel three). Not, “At last”? proof-reader, beware!

Most of us would starve if we had to hunt for our own food.

Actually, I’m impressed. You gotta be pretty fast to catch one of those buggers. They’ve got 10,000 eyes (or something to that effect).

Dragonflies eat mosquitoes, don’t kill them! (Unless you are a lily-livered mosquito lover)
