“We can’t leave her up here,” Holly said “It’s a child,” she said, “a little kid” But the child was alive How did Sandy survive? We don’t know, but for six years she did But in making that determination Holly triggered this sad situation When she said “we can’t leave…” Either way she would grieve… Sandy opted for annihilation Or at least, that’s what Flask seems to say And when Holly jumped into the fray She might well have been shot For we know Flask does not Suffer obstacles found in her way So this ending, while sad, could be worse They’ll continue their dust-plain traverse (And I should have inquired: Are you folks here tired Of my little comments in verse?) =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum

“We can admit that we’re killers … but we’re not going to kill today. That’s all it takes! Knowing that we’re not going to kill – today!” —Kirk, Star Trek episode “A Taste of Armageddon”

Death doesn’t make you heartless, it’s giving up on humanity that does.

In the end, it really is a choice. I guess at times we, as well as Wally, see Holly as innocent because her heart is bigger than she is, and she feels the pain of other people in surprising ways. In the story though, she really isn’t innocent, as she said here. She lived during the time of the end, just like everyone else in the story, and has her own story to tell, full of similar characteristics of death, pain, and stark terror. Flask comes from a very different background, but it is very much in Holly’s nature to be able to understand that background and how Flask feels. She has amazing insight, which is what helped Wally let go of who he used to be, and accept what had happened to him.As for the poetry, don’t stop level head. You have been dubbed the official bard of endtown, and the insight into this story you give is amazing, you often seeing things that I would normally pass over. It helps me appreciate the work being done here.
