Thank you ….naturally_easy. Just who says grandparent’s are suppose to paid for their grand kids college fees? Hey sonny boy, you had him….you pay for his college!
Grandpa’s generation was frugal, and knew how to go without. Nate’s generation is the one that has to have that $4. cup of Starbucks. Can’t tell the difference between needs and wants. Spend it all on yourself, grandpa!
Speaking as a parent, a grandparent & very possibly a soon to be great grandparent: I cosigned a student loan for my daughter, which she repaid in full. I told my children, from a very early age, that I expected them to be self sufficient after age 18. Up to that point I was legally responsible for them, but then they must be responsible. It seems to have worked. I have some terrific children!
Umm… do you think they would be living with you if they had a spare $50-100k? I paid for all of my college tuition (eventually) and I’m still financially stable… who said that parents had to pay their kid’s tuition anyway? That’s what financial aid and grants are for… plus, if the child is emancipated, the parent’s income has no bearing on their aid. ;-)

Nowadays, we grandparents are just trying to figure out what will come first. Retirement or death. Secret fund….yeah, right!
