No way. She’s not going to pounce on “their” used as a singular pronoun?

I swear Mom is based on my mother – Grammar Nazi and horrible driver. My mother didn’t drive – she lurched. One pedal or the other on the floor.

It’s “Someone (or somebody) left his or her shoes in the middle of the floor,” not THEIR shoes. Mr. Armstrong needs to agree on singular or plural! (One of my grammatical pet peeves!)

In a near-future novel setting, I use hizzer. It didn’t get published.

The American Heritage College Dictionary says that someone and somebody are synonyms and are basically interchangeable. But both are SINGULAR. Grandma should have said to Marcy: Someone left His or Her shoes in the hallway.
