Yes, the actions of the French Fleet (maybe for the only time in history, the French beat the British at their own game of naval supremacy…) were decisive at Yorktown, and no, the victory of the US colonies was anything but certain when the French decided to intervene, even though the US militia had astonished the world at Saratoga. And even before their formal entry into the war, the French had started to provide supplies, ammo and artillery to Washington’s army….
