Little comic strip cats are cute, Miss Tink, but this idiot needs to go to the nearest soup kitchen and get himself a meal. To starve yourself in the middle of a city or a town is madness.
I don’t think 6 (is it 6?) counts as hoarding, especially considering they are plainly in excellent health and his house is clean.
I do plaintively wish we could get back to Walt and Skeezix’s family. Goodness knows there are enough of them that we don’t have to have a steady diet of Clovia and Slim. Paul1963, do you have any stories for the sidelines about, say, Chipper or Nubbin?
The probable reason that the focus has been on Slim and Clovia is that the focus has just about always been on a couple and their children- Skeezix and Nina, for example in the fifties. It probably seemed the natural progression to focus on Slim and Clovia as the parents and grandparents of today. Although we may find the idiot husband and shrewish wife annoying, it is, if I remember correctly, the same concept as Maggie and Jiggs and such early tv sitcoms as the Trouble With Father and Meet Mr. McNutley Or the variant, I Love Lucy and I Married Joan . Jim also solves the problem of Walt’s age and what I once read that the syndiicate does not want Walt to die. By not focusing on Walt or even on Skeezix’ age, as has been done recently, Jim has been able to avoid the problem. In essence, Slim and Clovia have become the present day Skeezix and Nina. Of course, there are the other characters you mentioned, but the focus has almost always been on one couple in a generation. For example, for many years, Chipper was ignored as the potential head of a family.
Rufus had Kitty since I’ve been reading GA, over 40 years now. How is she even alive, let along able to reproduce? Rufus, c’mon over, I have plenty of leftover enchiladas my daughter made.

Can’t Rufus get SSI so he won’t go to bed hungry?

Is having so many cats a hoarding disorder, or pure kindness?

I don’t know about the rest of you, but this a cute story arc! Please don’t vomit, can I keep it if I like cute things?

Slim must have eaten the excess food by now…maybe for the first meal back home.

Most cities have an ordinance on how many animals can be kept in a residence. Somebody should call the pound.
