Thousands of Gemsboks, large African antelope, Rome wild at the Whitecap Sands Missile Range, a rocket testing facility in New Mexico, USA! Tristan Stadtmuller of Los Angeles, Calif., USA, fractured both of his feet during US Marine Corps infantry training but continue to serve with them untreated for 7 months! Believe it or not! Gladiators of ancient Rome had strict safety roles they followed during their fights- contrary to popular belief that they were fought to the death of their opponents!

Tristan probably had a 1/2 day of KP or light duties.
We were out in the field for days; hot, sweaty, tired, hungry, just generally nasty. My knee hurt, I went back to the base to see the doctor. Just as I was there 2 other guys were being yelled at and berated by this 6’6" doctor, for being wimps. Oh my! Well I did have pulled ligaments so my knee was wrapped and I was sent to light duties, let me tell you I was back in the field the next day.

What’s so special about the Gemboks ? There are many Elk that roam the Hanford nuculear reservation all the time! There isn’t much there but sage brush, tumbleweeds, rattlesnakes and jack rabbits.

I guess it’s true what they say: Pain is weakness leaving the body.
