Yeah, I truly hate to agree with anything the Pennys do, but I’d use ‘em too, if they’d ever get both my name and address right.
I refuse be coerced into paying for things I didn’t order, especially from organisations I don’t care to support.… And the law says it’s not stealing. There’s NO point to sending them back… cos… oh nooo ..Burl is (gulp) absolutely right. And if they have the organisation’s name on them they’d rather you used them, paid or not, cos it’s advertising for them.
I have to agree. We recieved labels from a charity we never heard of, my wife sent them money. I told her just because someone sends you something, you only have to pay for it if you ordered it.
40 years ago, when my grandmother died, some sleazy company sent my grandfather a lamented clipping of her obit that was meant to be used as a bookmark. They wanted him to either pay $5 for it or send it back. He was upset. He didn’t really want it, but he said if he sent it back they would just throw it away and disrespect her. I told him to just put it in his keepsakes. I said he didn’t order it, he wouldn’t have to pay for it. They couldn’t even prove they sent it to him. That is what he did.
I even have to agree with their (never thought I would say this here) logic. How ironic that a company wanting to preserve forests would print labels that most people are going to just throw away.
My wife has caught on, we only give to the charities we believe in and can afford. If they solicit without our asking that puts them at the bottom of the list. We use their mailing lables guilt free.
Now if you like this comment send me $5, if you don’t please delete it now.
The Pennys are right for the first time in living memory. It’s also a good thing to check on what percentage of your donation actually gets to the cause. In some cases, it’s a real eye-opener.
If I like em …. I use em too….. but have also purchased from printers ones that come on a spool and in my own design/color selection…. This the PENNYs would never consider…… ! ! !
those labels are always sent the cheapest way possible, bulk rate. that means that if the addressee has moved or refuses to accept them, then the postal service does not return them to the mailer, they trash them.If you think you are ‘fixing’ a company for sending you unsolicited mail by marking refused on it, all you are doing is letting the postal service trash them for you….the only way to return them to the mailer is to put them in a separate envelope and mail it back to them , you paying the postage.
Back when I still mailed things (before all bills could be paid online) I used to print my own and I still have many Avery forms (mailing labels, business cards etc). I also have some of those unsolicited things, the only ones I like and even pay for are a calendar or date book now and then because they are useful to me.
Good morning to you all.I want to thank each and everyone of you good people foryour concern and well wishes.I am progressing by leaps and bounds.I had my whole right shoulder replaced. The amazing thing is, the pain associated with this is virtually non existant. I read each and everyone of your posts . I hope to be back in full swing in a couple of weeks .it’s very difficult to type with the wrong hand, so I’m speaking these comments through my smartphone .you all be good and play nice and I’ll be back real soon to look out:……..Leaky
Okay. I have to comment on this. Ms. Larson has never had anything politically correct or charitable come out of the Pennys’ mouths, so I have to ask what is wrong with Ms. Larson that she would do so today? Is Ms. Larson’s thinking so skewed that she actually believes the Pennys’ attitude today is their normal cheap, inconsiderate, selfish, obnoxious way of doing things?
They depend on people who feel that they are obliged to pay for something that they never ordered. Legally, you do not have to pay for unsolicited merchandise.
sent 20 bux to Make a Wish Foundation. got swamped for the next two years with junk mail that had to cost twice that. good use for “tear-jerker” donations, eh? don’t waste your time.
Thanks Marg.Leaky… I started to wonder…. “it’s very difficult to type with the wrong hand”Whose hand is it, Leaky?Joe Friday… that would be one’s first thought, wouldn’t it?I could use them, but…play detective:just imagine you live at 221B Baker St. and received labels that said “Baker Ave,” or “Apartment B….” And Mona, those labels are totally unsolicited. I get them from groups I’ve never even heard of. The Pennys didn’t and won’t donate money to pay for them…. And to me, Burl’s remark seems purely sarcastic. He thinks he’s pulling one over on the organisation… and he mocks their purpose cos they’re wasting trees.I see nothing altruistic there, but perhaps your take is different.dfowensby… me too. I bought someone a $25 gift from Defenders of Wildlife, and made them promise: no solicitation, no mailing lists. They sent me e-mail EVERY DAY for months, plus there was almost daily paper mail from them or any of several other groups — some bogus.
The reason I say “bogus” is THREE groups, all in different states, sent me the same exact photo of a beat-up lion they had supposedly “rescued”, two purportedly from the circus, one from the wild… with three different sad stories and each with their own names for him.
… and anything unsolicited that has a return envelope, stuff it withtheir material and send it back… Then it DOES cost them, and helps keep our poor, broke, USPS in business.
Glad to hear that Leaky is doing well! and I agree with all of you on all those scams! I gave to so many in my younger days and never do now! I have just given to Cornell U for their great bird cameras as have most of the 3000 or so who are also enjoying them.

For once they are correct. They labels are unsolicited, and are yours to use as you will.

I’m not even going to bother trying to say it. It just goes against every fiber of my being, since they are more than often wrong.

I began to fear, after reading this strip, that using those unsolicited labels is somehow wrong (since the Pennys do it).
Thankfully, after reading the comments, I see I am not alone.

I notice that the amount of labels that we receive has dropped off quite a bit since the outfits sending them never receive donations from us.

When I was 13 I had an injury to my right hand and spent most of that year writing with my left (very difficult)
vldazzle over 12 years ago
At least the injury got me over $500 from Riverview Park which I invested and it is good. I never liked amusement park rides before or since!

I used to get labels for Ms Cuddles Cockatoo because I donated to some places in her name (she even got credit card applications-LOL!!)
