Andy served His/Her Majesty? (Give the coat a trip to the washing machine or laundromat first, though.)

Andy was a fusilier – I always said he served with McAlpine’s Fusiliers. I’ll bet that coat has a real ‘pong’ about it !

Andy was a sergeant in the Northumberland Fusiliers and served in North Africa during WWII. Strangely, this is exactly the same as the great cartoonist Reg Smythe.

Gosh. Surprising the army did not make him a responsible person. Usually does.

Even though it smells bad… It’s still a treasure to Andy.

I remember when Flo nagged at him to dispose of it.

I take it Andy was doing his National Service. I bet he was with the British Army on the Rhine personally protecting every Lager Haus and Ratskeller near the base.

Also he knew the first name of every ‘Red Hat’.

He suited that coat back then… Plus I never knew Chalkie was a bachelor? I thought he was married to Rube all through the Andy Capp era…

Left hook seems to be Andy’s favorite bop.

I know I don’t comment often on this comic I just enjoy seeing how people chat with each other over many miles apart but I feel I must answer a couple things.. Eldo I believe that Percy the rent man’s surname was Ritson I found a old book where Andy introduces him for a brandy whilst distracting him from paying that weeks rent.. But I’m kinda new to this so hope you don’t mind my imput

In early strips – I mean, like 30 years ago – Andy said he served with the British Army in North Africa. That would make him about 90 today. Maybe all that beer serves as a preservative…

The whole thing would be different if WW2 had been fought on US soil.
