Boy, does that bring back memories. We had a backyard garden growing up, and Mom always had to pick the tomatoes as soon as they got even a spot of yellow or orange color, or the birds would peck them. She’d line the undamaged ones on the sill of a north-facing window and let them finish turning there. So we never got a truly “vine-ripened” tomato, but they were still way ahead of the store-bought ones.
