“They´ve got a leader, big cheer leader, oh what a guy! He´s got a frozen face just like an Eskimo Pie When he says “Come on, let´s go!” Though it´s forty-five below Listen what those Eskimo all holler : I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Rah, rah… Oogie de wawa rah rah rah!"
I have the 1925 by Fred Waring on my MP3 player. There is sort of later, simpler version.
This is why it is important to ambush the ice cream truck. As soon as you hear any tinkling that might be its call, rush to the side of the street and hide in the grass. Then, as it nears, leap out and capture it, grabbing hold of whatever part of it is nearby and holding tight until it ceases its struggles and releases its ice cream to your hungry maw.
I had a neighbor who’s child chased the ice-cream truck. I think it was her nearly daily treat and I swear the truck driver would drive around the corner, just to give her some exercise or something. My sister and I never had to chase the truck, but then again, buying a good humor from him was a novelty.
This kid, I’m not sure what his name is, is it “Crabgrass”?, has no redeeming qualities that I can see. If you could blame an abusive upbringing for making him SO nasty & unrelentingly negative it’d be one thing, but from what I’ve seen of the parents they appear perfectly decent. I suppose the cartoonist is shooting for an updated Calvin & Hobbes character, but he has NO charm, NO imagination, NO sense of humor…and no Hobbes!!

They still look weird. New art style could use a couple tweaks, I think.

Today’s comic is the embodiment of the “Am I Out of Touch?” meme, and the boys are Principal Skinner.
