I had one cat that was so mellow he just sat calmly in the middle of his carrier (never dared let him ride free). At the vet’s I could take him out and sit him on my lap, despite the other cats and dogs around. Once, in the examining room, the vat came in to find me sitting in a chair, and an empty exam table. He hears a noise, turns, and there’s the cat up on his second shelf busily examining the assorted bottles.

I can relate. My mother (bless her soul) sometimes drove with a cat not in its pet carrier. (“We’re NOT going to the vet!”)
