Miss Bliss:Let's get the mud off you. Miss Bliss: Your clothes are soaked. Wear some from the Lost and Found Bin till they're dry. Beni: Those clothes are really old! Like hobo clothes that a scare-crow wears! Kevin: Yeah! A scarecrow with no real fashion sense! Dill: Yeah! They look like hand-me-down clothes from a clown family-Hey! Those are my clothes...

Oh-oh - they’ve had a laugh at her expense - you can see the rage boiling… I hope Dill doesn’t try to get the clothes back from off her back…

I had something like this happen to me in 2nd grade. The playground had sections of 6’ diameter concrete pipe to climb on; I slipped off and belly-flopped into the mud. The school nurse (do schools have nurses any more?) gave me dry clothes from lost n found. I totally forgot the incident until I got home and my mom asked me “Where did you get those clothes?!?!” I actually had to think for a minute…

I had a similar 2nd grade experience too - the boy next to me threw up on my school uniform (Catholic school) and I had to wear hobo clothes for the rest of the day. It was seriously traumatic to be the only one not in uniform. The crazy clothes themselves didn’t pierce my consciousness, but apparently they were so bad my mom snapped a photo of it when I got home.

Yes schools (at least in New York) have nurses. They have lost and found clothes and donations of clothing because soe don’t have winter coats/gloves/boots. God bless them and the patience they have which is endless..

I remember looking through a day care’s lost and found box, and there were a few pairs of underwear. Which raises a few questions…

At least the pants aren’t checkered plad with a brown sweater with a big white and black vertical stripe down the center. Not that I ever wore clothes like that.
