Good grief, such agonizing over a purposefully silly event. If a kid is too self-conscious to do whatever it is, they don’t have to. But anyone who wants to act goofy in school for half a day gets the chance to blow off some steam. It hurts no one, and it’s fun for everyone who wants it to be fun. Let it be.
crazy hair day, pajama day, favorite team day. For the child like petey, who doesn’t do any of those things, are sure to get noticed for NOT participating, when all they want is to be invisible. I myself was on the poor side, and team day, I didn’t have a jersey, we couldn’t afford it. And yes the kids knew it….
Well, that’s one nice thing about a boarding school. We didn’t have the “stuff” to dress funny. And since everybody wore the same thing, finances were not a factor.
My granddaughter won the contest at her school, I put her hair in a bunch of little pony tails and rolled each one into a knot, then we put a small plastic action figure in each knot. THEN we dripped pink food coloring over each knot. The day after crazy hair day, her hair was pink polka dotted!
Alice in panel 2 sees what she imagines; Petey in panel 3 is absolutely correct in suspecting that Alice is not looking at him “normally”—although in her case it can be hard to identify “normal.”
