Your Dad is right, Alice. There is no way to bring that thing home and it is too expensive.

Better to resign yourself to the fates, and recite some of Keats’ “Ode to a Grecian Urn”:

When old age shall this generation waste, Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woeThan ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say’st, “Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”

Alice is much too young to respond to reason. Simpler just to say no.

Tell her it’s her’s but she has to leave it there. Works for horses and the Pyramids of Giza. And various bridges and castles.

$800 doesn’t include the pump, lighting, and controls. You also need something with nozzles and a catch basin. You’re at $2000 now. Let me show you our assorted sizes of Belgian Boy fountains.

The family frequently winds up in this yard. Like a recurring nightmare.

I remember conversations like that with my girls. They are 4 1/2 (2-29-00) and it does not stop, even when they leave for university.
