That table reminds me of Mum’s. Several layers of old newspapers, magazines, requests for donations to odd “charities”, and she donated to all of them. (My favorite of those was the Pig Protection Program; presumably they saved pigs from slaughter houses.)
I am this old as well – but I don’t think they are saying ALL of us look like their Grandmother..,..Let’s be honest, there ARE some women (and men) out in the world who DO look like this AND have messy houses….I agree it’s still funny.
This reminds me of my godmother who bitterly complained every Christmas that cleaning off the dining room table made her lose some critical piece of paper.
The cartoonist “Giles” was very big in the U.K. in the 50s and 60s (before my time, but I read archival stuff). He often portrayed a motley family—the grandmother looked similar to this one, only grumpier.

I kinda resent this, I’m as old as grandma…my dining room table is clean and I DONT look like a crone. The stereotype is not nice.
But it does mske for a funny comic!

“Like father, like son”; or, vice versa.
But, Madeline, maybe a muffled Alice is safer at Grandma’s dinner?
