In my experience—from the days when my kids were in such recitals—the teacher interspersed the “talented” among the “struggling” just to keep it interesting, and as the attention span was waning among the audience an especially talented “star” pupil would perform…

I’m guessing that Petey must be one especially talented since he’s slotted that far into the concert.
