The principal called I presume. In the mean time, I was never sent to the principal’s office in high school for the man was my father. Well, except in sophomore year when he and the county deputy asked for my witness of some touch housing in carpentry class.

Did I get sent to the Principal? 10 of us girls did in the 8th grade.School yard had a “girls” side and a “boys” side, we were sent to the boys side to pick up trash, Principal caught us and the nun who sent us over there denied doing it, Mother Superior locked us in the Library and called our parents, Got a surprise, our parents were livid….at her! Said it was the dumbest thing they ever heard. Made her let us go. I saw my father in a new light that day!

And no… I never got sent to the principal’s office…not for misbehavior, anyway.

My father was much tougher than any principal.

It is impossible for parents not to be informed these days. I can log into his record online (which only a parent can), and see his homework assignments for the next week. If he is late or misses a day, I get a call on my cell, at home, a text, and an e-mail. There is no hiding any screw-up at school. If the kid did it and the school knew about it, the parent will find out.

I got sent to the principal’s office once, in Grade 1, for playing marbles with the boys.

Girls’ side, boy’s side? I never heard of such a thing. Obviously I didn’t go to private school. And no, never to the principal’s office – my dad worked at the school and knew all my teachers. I was terrified of misbehaving.

The principal’s office was only a pit stop on the way to the gym where the coach would administer so motivational therapy with the board of education. This was back in the sixties when they could do things like that.

How did you (or your parents) find out?

There was nothing to find out…

Thinking on the subject… if I knew then what I know now, I likely wouldn’t be around today!

I also think of the George Burns tune I Wish I Was Eighteen Again

My troubles began in 1st grade. I was always out in the hall for one thing or another. Usually covering for my ex best friend because she was afraid of her dad. In my school career I was sent to the principle so many times I couldn’t count them and the same with suspensions. I was expelled from the district 3 times and allowed to come back each time with a stint in summer school. You might say I had a problem with authority figures. I’d fight authority and authority always wins.
