I don’t know a “Tea” – neither high nor short/low/vertically challenged.
A cafe down the street has a sign that they don’t have WiFi because their guests are supposed to converse – and that place is for people in their early twenties.
I used to read during lunch as a child/teen – not allowed to when not alone.
I’m glad to have WiFi, and might even text, while I’m eating….
IF I’m alone.
I find it strange and generally rude when people do it in front of others,
unless it’s a rare occasion when both are involved,
for instance, “One of us should text Jane and see whether we should wait for her.”
I have a friend who answers her phone and has long conversations with other people while we’re eating together or especially, riding in a car together.
One time at a restaurant I looked at her and said “I guess I should go so you can enjoy your conversation in private.”
She just rolled her eyes.
I like her; we’ve been friends for years, but don’t see each other often.
She tells me she enjoys our time together.
A mutual friend told me that she does the same thing with her….
…and that one of those times when they were together, she was talking on her phone to ME
(she’d never told me anyone else was with her).
Maybe holding two conversations makes her feel popular or something.
Not worth giving up a long friendship for the occasional annoyance….
My cell is so old it was a rotary dial. Hubby and I work the crossword puzzles at the table, but after being married for 43 years and retired for 18 of them we’ve run out of stuff to talk about.
If my husband even sets his phone next to his dinner plate, I take mine elsewhere. When we’re out with friends for dinner and he pulls it out to show a funny picture, I just glare at him. He looks at our friends like, see what I have to put up with? Tough. I’m not having it.
