In most families, 10-year-olds aren’t expected to be self-supporting …. unless you count a few chores, which in some cases earn pocket money.
There are exceptions…. child actors and models, for instance, may even support the family….
though it’s sad when that’s driven by parental expectations.
I knew a young boy who started helping a family friend at antique shows, when he was about 8… packing and unpacking, running errands… eventually even handling some sales.
By the age of ten he was was sharing the booth…. buying and selling his own collectible merchandise…
and making some pretty good money, for a kid…. which his somewhat startled parents insisted he put in his college fund.
Nonetheless, in the Western world, at ten, it’s usually considered just fine to concentrate on school, and growing, and let Mom and Dad cover your basics.
Sadly, there are places where child labor is accepted, even considered necessary, and is overlooked, even if technically illegal.
And even here, much disagreement exists on where to draw the line.
At what age is the child/teen/young adult expected to earn his own luxuries?
Move out? Pay rent at home?
A lot of 34-year-old “kids” nowadays still live at home without making any contributions.

No, I think that’s the nephew Spork who’s the freeloader, not the son Elliott.

Which brings me to Tony’s question:
“Do you load free?”
I can only wish, Tony. I can only wish?
Anybody want to adopt me?
Free to a good home.
