Some say to a fault. When I was 10 my aunt visited sporting a new hat. She asked me if I liked it and I honestly said that I thought it was ugly. My father quickly pulled me aside and introduced me to the concept of a white lie.
BTW Tony, how long have you been out of school? Teachers around here changed over to using email a long time ago.
I thought I was really in trouble when the office called my mom in. I knew she would be shown the notes I signed for her. Worked out, the signatures were good enough that she just didn’t remember signing them.
True story, sophomore year of highschool, had a doctor appointment that my dad wrote me a note for and I turned it in. Big mistake as it turns out. The signature did not match the other 50 or so notes on file. Busted. I had written all the other notes myself. DUH. What was I thinking?

Tough call here. You tell him to be honest, so do you punish him for being honest. I think he gets off on a technicality.
