I think the telegraph made a more radical impact on society at the time.

Boring or bored?

Well – at least I am done with holiday shopping, @Tony!

The telegraph had been invented a long time before that.

It’s important to know where we come from.

I actually find this stuff fascinating. Most people don’t know that the first fax machine was invented in 1850. It was called the Pantelegraph or "Copying Telegraph and sent a message from Paris to Lyon. And now you know.

The kid could learn a lot from history……..and not get bored!

But with this version of Zoom you can see people without their clothes.

A real boomer if Zoom reminded him of the telegraph.

Several years go I read a book about how the telegraph very quickly became popular for legitimate use but also with scammers! Fake real estate sales, fake bachelors looking for a wife, fake job offerings, etc. Sound familiar? (The Victorian Internet, by Tom Standage) It was interesting!

Anyone who lives or vacations on Cape Cod might want to check out the International Telegraph museum in Orleans, Mass. One of the first cross-Atlantic telegraph lines terminated on the Cape and the museum has a lot of interesting history and artifacts about it.
