I happen to think both strips are pretty great.

Yes, P B S is different and has no horse but that does not make it bad. Some people just may not get it. And like many great cartoonists Pastis is left handed.

Or is it that Samson is in a dry spell and is needing a shot of “Outside the box” thinking from someone like Pastis? Personally, I am of the opinion that humor depends more on the reader than the author. Maybe you don’t think something is funny that someone else finds hilarious. Neither are wrong.

Horace. How about you and my friend Flicka spent the day at the track. Maybe you can have lunch. They serve seabiscuits with pinto beans and a horseradish dip that’s a real winner.

The funny part is that bringing in characters from other strips is a time honored PBS joke.

Well, I think it is pretty darn funny! But then, I know how many times Rat has pretty much said the opposite to Pastis. Samson, you NAILED that last panel.

The second panel is funny, because Dr. Suess’ children’s books are far from abstruse. But if Horace was lacking basic horse sense, he might consider them abstruse.

I have never gotten used to comic strip artists who draw themselves into every strip.

But what if both comics are by the same cartoonist?

Ive seen a couple other comic strips pull in some PBS characters. Over the Hedge being the most memorable with Hammy singing "I see London, … I see Rat’s underpants. Even tame artists have gotten into the act. I remember seeing a PBS reference in BC or Wizard of Id, I just cant remember which one. I think these cross overs are pretty funny.

To me the popularity of PBS is a sign of how far the new comics have fallen. Worse art than “Dilbert,” dumber morons than “Get Fuzzy,” and the most forced puns of any source.

Well, that is certainly the minority position I would say. One of the most popular comics out there. Go Steve Go.
