I believe that bagpipes are played at funerals to comfort the mourners, letting them know that the dearly departed has gone to a place where they’ll never have to hear bagpipes again.
I actually knew someone once who professionally played the bagpipes, and let me tell you, in the right hands, bagpipes actually do sound good.
However, they are loud, and playing them in a confined space tends to mess with the sound (it’s the reverb I think). As a result, during the warm months, this someone often practiced his playing outside, presumably to avoid that problem. I lived about a block away from him, and let me tell you, you could always hear him pretty clearly when he was practicing.
I was lucky enough to work on an archaeological dig in the Inner Hebrides years ago. We lived one one tiny island (I think it was Oransay) and worked on the other (I think it was Colansay.) When the water was low, we could drive between the two; but usually we traveled by boat. These islands are mostly peopled by shepherds and sheep and little can be raised on the islands. They depend on boats to bring in food, and each time a boat with provisions arrives, it is piped in. Sometimes when we arrived, we were piped in, too. I loved the sound, and every time I hear it, it reminds me of that dig…
It’s a good thing that we pipers have thick skin. True, in the wrong hands, the pipes can be painful to listen to, but played well – there’s nothing like it! In a shower, however, that would be crazy loud!

O Horsey boy, thy pipes, thy pipes are caterwauling
From tile to tile and down the "neigh"bore-hood
The summer’s gone and all the water’s falling
’Tis you, ’tis you must stop and I that cried

Many years ago I lived in a trailer park where the units were pretty close together
I sang in the shower
Didn’t realize how much my voice carried until a neighbor told me which songs sounded best

You have to play a water pipe in the shower (don’t ask me how). :)
