People wrote on keyboards combined with printers. They had no electronics or electricity. They had to push the keys really hard. They had only manual feed. To make copies, they fed more than one sheet of paper at a time, with the backs of the top papers being covered with soot, and they had to push the keys really, really hard. Sometimes their fingers got stuck between the keys, or the keys jammed together they typed too fast.
Mimeograph copies (oh the smell of that ink) – headlight dimmer switches on the floor board of the car – no seat belts – home milk delivery in glass bottles with pog stoppers (we used to collect the pogs) – jukeboxes – table side jukeboxes – making money to go to the Saturday matinee by collecting pop bottles and selling them at the corner store for 2 cents each
