A house blows up, a man is shot, and a car crashes and burns and the chief of police is unaware of any of this. This has been by far the most addled, idiotic story I have ever read. Tracy should be dismissed from the force, and indicted for negligent homicide at least, and a wrongful death lawsuit filed. Well that would happen in the real world, or in a comic strip that prided itself on accuracy and the faithful portrayal of procedures. So now what? What inane story are they planning on foisting on the readers? How long can this go on?
Edit: It’s later, so why is there no fire crews on site? Even drawing ONE fireman would have conveyed the message.
Why was Tess calling Diet Smith?
So, who was the terrorist bomber? Or the cyber-terrorist? If not Noll, why was the CIA contacting Diet Smith? What will become of Noll’s fuel substitute? Or Noll? Why did Angel do her big display in Tracy’s house about perfume? Why did Driller want to give it a famous name? Why did Angel change the name to “love fire”? What blew up in Noll’s house? Where the heck is the Naperville 911? Just awful. We got burned. Not Angel.
This story arc finally over? I’ve tried to see this through Matthew’s eyes, but it didn’t do anything for me. This week I’ve spent looking at all the comics I read to see which ones I want to keep reading (been wasting too much time on all the comics), and I will admit, I’m staying with this one for the comments - it’s a great community when it doesn’t get out of hand.
Originally, this story had tons of potential, but then, it ended up going off in many different directions, and ended up being a cluster**. This story also ended way too fast. Man, I miss Chester Gould more as each day goes by reading this sorry excuse for a comic strip…
As a young boy I was always taught to respect my elders. With this in mind, I believe the time to politely ask Mr. Locher to turn the pen over to someone else is at hand.
I’m sure DL is a fine man but the reality is that it’s time for him to retire. The sharpness of story is totally gone. The art is becoming shaky and inconsistent. He’s had a good run and new blood is needed to revive this venerable legacy strip.
I’m just wondering when the Naperville police department will file a lawsuit. From the time the first reports of an explosion were called in they would have been all over this like white on rice, and here they’re depicted as absent— including the officer on the scene, Detective Tracy.
Tracy back home and calling Chief Lizz with the now usual wrap up, end of story talk.
What happens next ?
TESS: seen in act of contrition shows, hands behind her back, Eyebrows up and facial expression saying “I can’t believe I was so stupid once again and Locher certainly doesn’t help by giving me sensible lines” Dick where are your handcuffs (?) Go arrest him for defamation of my character”
FEMALE PARTNERS: Which female partners - Never seen again!
CIA COSGROVE: “Don’t quite know why (?), but Computer says no need to look for dangerous Bomber anymore. Search cancelled!”. Back to ‘looking’ important.Never seen again.
TRACY: “we had a little excitement around here Chief I called “911 – FAST” but an investigation is now needed, a few days have passed and they haven’t arrived yet.
4 OIL COMPANY EXECS (At meeting including Driller): How can we have made such a big mistake (?), that “perfume” mixture was really a high milage “gas” addative formula and we all rejected it. We have Tracy on tape on the ‘phone to his Chief confirming that.
I tested it at Major Oil and told her “we see a lot of ‘kooks’ with high milage formulas - and this is one of them”
And over at Super Oil I tested it and determined that “Angelorious was duped, she was sold a perfume formula” Oil Execs, never seen again!
And immediately prior to this Noll (2-16-09)told Tracy: “Whoever she is Tracy, she’ll be back. She doesn’t have the Gasoline formula. I gave her something else”.
Noll never seen again!
Talk about “contradiction”, it’s a whole bundle of them. Readers are left puzzeled, dumbfounded, the story “formula” and “facts” keep changing from day to day (?). Readers ended up on the floor having fallen off the “edge” of their seats.
Can I with respect ask: WHO is dumb?
A) DR.NOLL ?
B) DICK TRACY ?
C) THE OIL COMPANY EXECUTIVES ?
D) THE READERS ?
or
F) Author DICK LOCHER?
or perhaps
G) Larry, Moe and Curly the 3 stooges who continue to genuflect every day ?
Tomorrow’s recap should be interesting. I wonder if/when the still smoldering car will be cleared from the middle of the road. Knowing the ineptitude of the Naperville authorities, Angelorious is still in it. Just unbelievable.

Evidently none of the other cops showed up at the scene of a fatal accident, because Liz is sure clueless.

Aren’t you ashamed to call yourself a cop, Tracy?

Anticlimactic hardly begins to cover this.

runar, I’m with you!
Looks like Tracy has been hitting the gym with that skin tight turtleneck showing off his massive guns.
The first panel is so poorly drawn I’d be embarrassed to let it see the light of day.
I guess that’s it for Nubby and we move on to the next non-story?

I’m glad DT had “a little excitement” he sure didn’t get it from reading this comic strip.

Panel one: Billy from Family Circus is filling in on art for the drawing of Tess. Tracy is talking into a phone that has no cord.
