“If you feel nervous in an unfamiliar neighborhood, go with the crowd.” Smart Locher, real smart. Here in Downtown Reality everyone immediately thought of this scene:
I’ll keep that Crimestopper’s Textbook in mind the next time I’m in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district.
Meanwhile, yesterday the “two-way” was resting on the back of one of Tracy’s two left hands. Today he’s somehow managed to put it around the wrist of his other left hand, which is no longer holding his gun.
Panel #1: It is crazy, Testicle Chin. And you’re an idiot.
Panel #2: That storm was a couple of weeks ago, Junior. No wonder Horn Hair looks pissed off. Come back next Halloween and wear a different costume.
Panel #3: Horn Hair, you’re the bubblebrain who sent him on this mission, without bothering to check the weather forecast.
Panel #4: And thus ends the Silence of the Blands.
Panel #5: So that’s what Morbid looks like without his mask. And the “two way” is now so full of life that it jumped up and hugged Thick’s wrist out of sheer exuberance. No, wait, it jumped out of fear! Thick, you turned your back on Morbid! Look out!
Panel #6: Never mind, Thick. Morbid is too stupid to kill you when he can. But he is right about you being out of your mind.
Panel #7: Wouldn’t it be funny if the “old farm building” isn’t the granary, and Testicle Chin spends next week mumbling about it? I’m sure that would amuse Locher.
Sure, go with the crowd… they are the toughs that made you nervous in the first place!
Sam’s back in his Pacer and has happened upon the granery! A miracle, especially in the storm of the century!
Tracy turned his back on the viscious Dr. Mordred… but Mordred continues to talk. Would this not be a good chance to grab DT and wrestle the gun away from him?
Now that communications are back, I guess the AWACS is another dead-end plotline. Sorry for the bother, Air Force guys, happy landings in the Storm of the Century. Except, hey, what happened to the rain in the last panel?
Locher now has two weeks to end this mess. So: the building collapses and Mordred dies. “Ironically,” someone tells Thick, “the judge just announced he planned to release Mordred, so thanks to your bungling Mordred paid for his crimes anyway.” “Ironically, Mordred killed his victims by having them drown in collapsing old buildings.”
So, tomorrow, will Morbid still have his mask on? If he’s still standing behind Thick, will he attack him? Not counting Grimeslobbers, Locher has fifty panels left in which to wrap up this arc. That’s barely enough to have Thick trip over his feet while Mordred dies by an unforeseen and ironic accident.
The Ballad of Naperville Sam, Panel 1
(Apologies to Stephen Foster.)
This may be crazy,
But I have to find Tracy,
Doo Dah, Doo Da,
Can’t be lazy,
When the weather’s so hazy,
Oh, Doo Dah Day.
Gwine to drive all night,
Gwine to drive all day,
Tracy’s dyin’ in the granary,
Oh me, oh my, oy vey.
“You may be right,
I may be crazy,
But it just may be a lunatic in a gimp mask that I’m looking for.
Dick’s not too bright,
But I’ll try to save him.
You may be wrong for all I know,
But I’m really, really white.”
Hey, That’s no Pacer after all. It’s a ‘92 Deus “X” Machina. (The “X” stands for “value.”)
The issue here that I refuse to swallow is that Thick has his back turned on a serial killer who has been telling him out loud for months now that he’s gonna kill the “smart detective”. Has thick forgotten that the guy has a pretty nice length of chain ( “sap”, as the thugs in Chicago-land call it) to knock him unconscious?
So it’s not the storm of the century. That cop remembers another one.
The rain has stopped and the water has gone away in a matter of minutes. At least we won’t be seeing that stormy granary shot again.
Locher has this habit of dragging things on for weeks, then wrapping them up in a matter of days with most questions left unanswered. I think we’ll see another ridiculous, off the wall wrap up and that’ll be it.
How can a comic which prints twice a week move so much faster than a comic which prints every day? “The Legend of Bill” practically hits light speed compared to this strip.
ok… here is some possibles to fill the gaping holes in the story line..
the storm is a hurricane.. and they are in the eye.
the tide all rushed out due to the approaching tsunami.
tomorrow it will be raining again.
tomorrow the building will be up to the rafters..
It looks like the new street corner lake has dried up. Do we still have the cop on the other side holding the stop sign? Do the Naperville police have two different colored uniforms? We have one in blue and one in brown. Maybe one is for winter and the other is for summer, just like the service.
The Ballad of Dick Tracy
Come listen to a story about a once famous dick
What he’s become now will make you really sick
Used to be he was brave and really cool
Now he’s just a blundering fool
(Idiot that is, real old, twit with a capital T)
It now seems his reputation is beyond repair
And the artist / writer doesn’t even care
This strip is truly pathetic as we can see
It’s turned into an insult to you and to me
(intelligence wise that is, playing us as fools, lowering the bars )
At last it’s time to say goodbye to Locher and all his friends
What he’s done should be considered a multitude of sins
You more than welcome back to this locality
For a heaping doze of new Tracy originality
(Joe Stanton, and Mike Curtis to whom we should bow
Real nice team, Take over March 14th, be here)
Great little ditties Ray C and JCFremont
Thanks all for your comments on 02-24-11
Hot dawg! Wndrwrthg’s poetry today deserves a big ol’ Hoot ‘n’ Holler cheer! Once March 14th gets here, I know I’ll be more than happy to “c’mon back now, y’hear?” – every day!
I think morrow is right and Morbid will try to sap Thick with the chain. I hope it’s a good alloy or that poor, much-abused chain will feel the pain. Although it’s just as likely that swinging the chain will cause the building to collapse, dropping Morbid into the raging waters which vanished at Testicle Chimp’s approach. (I’m still betting on an accidental hanging, which would suit Locher’s taste for gruesome deaths.)
Locher has only two more shots left at Slimedroppers’ Wreckbook. Will he find anything dumber than today’s entry? Although today he did draw those three people in season-appropriate clothing. What with his snow-free Storm of the Century, it was beginning to look like Locher didn’t get the concept of winter.
Or, Thick and Testicle Chimp talk to one another directly over their wrist gizmos. But Locher would go for the convoluted way, if he remembers the AWACS plane.

So Mordred looks the same without his mask as with it and Sam was able to drive through the flood that submerged Spacy’s car.
Brewster Rockit is more believeable and a lot funnier.

Where has all the water gone if Sam can see an old building ready to collapse in the dark?
Dr. Midnight almost 14 years ago
As predicted, Sam just drives up to a building that’s supposed to be submerged to the second floor. Nice continuity.

Dr.Midnight said, “As predicted, Sam just drives up to a building that’s supposed to be submerged to the second floor. Nice continuity.”
Did Sam need to do a “power approach” (or whatever it’s called)? Notice that Sam isn’t aware that the communications are back up and running!

Despite all that, how does Sam know it is ABOUT to collapse? Ah, I just realised - Sam is crazy. Look how he’s biting the steering wheel in panel 1.
