I don’t mind seeing the old characters come back to life again.
There are 1,000’s of readers that didn’t know Dick Tracy during the Chester Gould days, so this is all new to them.
Plus, we get to re-live our favorites again.
I still can’t get over the detail in the drawings since the new team took over. The drawings are just as important as the dialogue is.
Now, the last time the story was interrupped, it showed a construction site on the other end of the city and a man carrying a bag or parcel that had to do something about comics.
Does anyone know what that was about???
Is it something that will come into play at another time????
Jeepers, creepers! Honeymoon left in peril, and these golden-oldie villains sprouting all over the place! It’s as BillThompson said! How will this all come together (small A-Team reference, there)?
Panda was an associate of Mr. Crime- the very same Mr. Crime that used the “boy’s club” as his hideout until everything fell apart and he left to take up his identity as a business man named Mr.Alpha. That was the club that Mike and Joe showed us in the last little glimpse of things to come. Jr. was given charge of the facility, to make it into a real boy’s club, at the time of Mr. Alpha’s demise. And WE SAW Mr. Alpha fall in a hail of machine gun fire. The exact quote from the panel is:“Lying dead amidst their own blood and money that was never theirs..” Actually, as I reread that bit of the story, Jr’s exact job was as a swimming instructor. Stay tuned. . .
Thanks, Ken. Dead is dead, no matter how you slice it. This has to be a new crime boss, although the comment concerning Tonsils and the barracuda is confusing. Hope this is all cleared up down the road. Panda is still Panda and wearing those black shirts, too. Should be interesting to see how all this shakes out.
Audio interview with Joe on TRACY, Jim Scancerelli on GASOLINE ALLEY, Marcus Hamilton on DENNIS THE MENACE and Alex Savuik (SPIDER-MAN) on doing legacy comic strips.
Thanks to all for the refreshers on the characters. Hard to recall the Gould days for this old dude. Echoing so many others, I love the art and how the story is developing. Great work Joe & Mike!
This is so much fun, seeing all this positive activity around DICK TRACY. Joe and Mike have everyone anticipating and enjoying this strip again. I would love to see Mrs. Chin Chillar return again, to cause trouble. That was an enjoyable story in the mid sixties!
As I’ve mentioned on the Yahoo forum, I suspect that the Mr. Crime that’s running around currently is not George Alpha. I think it’s a title which has been inherited, the inheritance of which may have to do with that “something that someone has found.”
I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I like how this other thread keeps poking its head in from time to time, it’s very interesting.
Come to think of it, there was a character called Odds Zonn – he was always juggling dice in his hands as he talked- who decided to put himself in George Alpha’s place after Alpha’s death. He got Tracy into a death trap in a culvert, but I don’t know what happened to him. Did he die or was he captured – does anyone know?
He was shot dead by his own bullet ricocheting of Tracy’s bullet proof glass plate. As he rolled over dead, the dice rolled to ‘snake eyes’ in his palm.
Collins would have a fairly similar death scene for Snake Eyes in 1993. He fell on his knife and the dice rolled the same way in his palm
@ Sydney Phillips:Thank you. I guess we can say that this currently mysterious Mr. Crime is not Odds Zonn either.@ Mike Curtis:That panel interview was very informative. I enjoyed listening to that very much.
This is turning into the Walking Dead, so far we got BB eyes, Cueball, Mr. Crime?? and Panda who doesn’t look 80. At least Screwball is new, and I don’t recollect this froggy looking dude. Still waiting for an explanation, though, of how BB got out of that junky water/tire predicament.

I think that’s Zippy’s Mr. Toad. His talking about feeding tonsils to barracudas makes me uncomfortable.

Have you ever noticed how the term ‘gentleman’ sometimes is used rather loosely?

I didn’t know Ike had an alias of ‘Panda’, or that he served time.

Tonsils was a singer patterned after Johnnie Ray in 1952. He was fed to Mr. Crime’s pet 90 pound baracuda.

Would you get in the car if an old associate drove up and said “There’s a new boss in town and he wants to talk to you.”?
