Yea Lee! Favorite (new) detective from Fletcher/Collins era!
Not sure if this is cool or not, but these were my first DT strips that kicked off my obsession (Vera Alldid content)
Vera Alldid in trouble:http://www.ilovecomixarchive.com/D/Dick-Tracy/Dick-Tracy-1975/13394001_hRVjTF#975729129_54NTJ-A-LB
..and, the wordless Sparkle/Vera strip they talk about…http://www.ilovecomixarchive.com/D/Dick-Tracy/Dick-Tracy-1975/13394001_hRVjTF#1185880724_KD7rT-A-LB
Vera never made it up to me after that, but that was probably his last appearance until this week….
I seem to recall that, after Max Collins was dropped as the strip’s writer (a real shame), Locher and Killian couldn’t use characters that had been created under Collins’ tenure. Apparently the copyright ownership wasn’t completely clear because of his contract and the syndicate didn’t want to potentially get sued..I know that I didn’t see Lee Ebony, Angeltop, Brow’s son, etc after that but I haven’t read the strip as faithfully in the past few years. Does this ring a bell with anyone? .It’s great to see Lee in the strip here. She looks amazing and very different from the Collins era. I wonder if it’s technically Lee Ebony or actually another female African American cop with a similar first name.
Mean Joe Green was the best of the best! He was memorialized for eternity in that Coca Cola ad when he tossed his game jersey to that kid who gave him a drink of his Coke after a game.
Are the new guys taking art lessons from Locher? I don’t get the hand. Skin and coat color makes it look like it must belong to Lee Ebony, but how is it attached to her?
I blameTracy’s “beefier” look in panel 3 to the way his trench coat might pull and bunch when he puts his arms in that hands on hips position. Remember, he’s still got his suit jacket on under the trenchcoat.
New,.Re your question:.“Anyone know what happened to Johnny Adonis?”.Johnny took over the Tracy Detective Agency after Tracy returned to official law enforcement at the conclusion of the “Who Shot Pat Patton?” case..More info on Johnny and his new partner in the Tracy Agency will be forthcoming in a future story.
I think the arm placement when the characters are talking on their wrist radios is an homage to Gould’s style. Both he and Locher used this unusual pose and I believe this makes for a consistency in the artwork throughout the years.
While “Abner Kadaver” certainly does look like an ex-TV horror movie host, he also somewhat resembles the old “Mr. Crime” character that narrated the stories in the old Gleason/Biro CRIME DOES NOT PAY comic-books. A subtle homage, perhaps?

Tracy is brimming with witticisms this week! What secrets lie in the past of the strange Abner Kadaver?

Good morning. With the exception of Superman, no one does conversation with arms akimbo better than Detective Tracy.
Panel 3 – Is it me, or has Tracy put on 30 pounds since talking to Vera?

margueritem Hi There ! Long time since we talked … do you think Dr. Meangreen could be a very distant, well meaning relative ?
He may even have enjoyed a kind moment - and stiched up your favorite Locher character - the Pig on Wheels ?

According to his brief bio, Mike has experience hosting horror movies on TV. _Tracy does look a bit “beefed” up there in panel three, but I like it.

Ex horror movie host “Abner Kadaver” sure looks a lot like perennial TV horror movie host “Son of Svengoolie” played by Rich Koz.since 1979.
