I was wondering if any of the team is Jewish. If so, thanks for sharing your celebrations with us.
If not, thanks for drawing more than a one panel that reads Merry Christmas. Your creative writing continues to amaze me by making the strip fresh – in this case by exposing readers to the holiday celebrations of another faith.
Now you have 360 days to prepare the next amazing Christmas panels.
Just found Dick Tracy, Love that guy and his team. Have been reading dick Tracy comics since I was a young kid in both comic books and newspaper. Looking forward to stip now everydayThank for making an old man feel young againBob
Yesterday it was suggested the original name “Spike Dyke” may be not be politically correct, but I am acquainted with people whose last name is indeed “Dyke.” Should I ask if they’ve changed it to “Smith?” If this is the same character as Spike Dyke, I’m glad to see his return! Thanks!
Spike Dyke, a parody of spike jones a famous odd-ball band leader, appeared in the Sketch Paree arc. Changing his name is politically if not historically correct.
I wonder if there might be another explanation for the name change. In 1959, when he last appeared, Spike Jones was still alive and still working with the “City Slickers.” In fact I think he might even have had a TV show on the air at that time. In that circumstance a visual caricature would probably be enough for most people to get the parody. Thing is that Spike Jones died in 1965. It may be that someone thought that they needed more than a visual clue to know who the character was meant to be satirizing.
Why did Spike change his name?My guess would be because of the new meaning given to it.There is also a rumor that his name actually is Spike Smith, but he used Spike Dyke as a stage name. I have no idea why he would do that, Smith isn’t exactly a common name after all, like Jones. WHAT, IT IS! Oops, my bad. (grin)Another reason could be this guy

Another strand woven into the plot! Does Spike Jr.’s trouble tie in with one of the existing cases on the MCS docket?

I’m also happy to see Spike again whatever his last name is. He could become a regular for my money.
