Will Putty Puss make a clean getaway? Will Cueball land some of his classic trick shots on Mr. Crachit’s skull? Will Cueball convince Mr. Crime’s lieutenants that he DIDN’T run off with the money? (He’s already on thin ice with the organization!)

Here’s another guy in a jacket and a bow tie. Could that be Putty Puss, making his getaway before anyone knows he was there? Or are bow ties in style?

Just another bookkeeper Cratchit. Is his first name Bob? Is he descended from that 19th century English guy? Which of the assorted and opposed bad guys is going to get it, and from whom? The possibilities are myriad!

    Happy birthday, Joe Staton!

Who’s the guy going in the out door? It will be interesting to here what Crachit will say about Mr. Cueball’s clothing. Mr. Staton is an awesome artist. It’s so hard to draw perfect hands EVERY time, and he does! Happy birthday sir.

…Sam on Monday,…Cueball on Tuesday and Wednesday, and now this random fan today….A Bow Tie, Suit Coat and a BLACK Shirt do seem to be the fashion trend. Sam again is way ahead of the fashion curve. Soon everyone will be back to taking up smoking in public dining places. Happy 65th Birthday Joe! Is the hidden message in today’s strip the Exit sign or the Customer Parking Only sign?

Wow! What a great piece of art, Tarry. Is that a special portrait, or will we see that in an upcoming strip, I wonder?

Also, “Crachit” as the name of a bookkeeper is, as others have already said, very clever. And wearing an old-fashioned eye shade while sitting in front of a modern computer spread sheet. That’s pretty cool.

@John Russco:I think both characters in the parking lot with Cueball are henchmen of Putty Puss. The fellow in the doorway is signaling his partner that Putty Puss is out of the building, and they can wrap up their distracting act, which was designed to keep Cueball occupied while Putty Puss took the money bag.

Some of you may not be aware that Dickens was, along with Edgar Allan Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Chester Gould’s favorite writer. It is likely from Dickens that Gould’s style of naming characters was in emulation of Dickens. .It also happens that 2012 is the bicentennial of Charles Dickens’s birth..For both these reasons, Mike’s naming a character “Cratchit” is quite appropriate.

As Jim Doherty mentioned in passing, the Dickens character’s name was spelled “Cratchit”, but I’m sure this was meant as an in-joke/homage. Happy Birthday, Joe, from another old fan of those Charlton E-Man days.
