CLICK IMAGE TO READ SAMPLEIt looks like Scooby Doo and Shaggy have found Sam! Hurray!Phishface is using the common line from every Scooby Doo episode ever done. But what can we expect from Mike (Writer for Harvey Toons Casper and Richie Rich) and Joe (Artist of Scooby Doo)? You know a Scooby Doo reference would have to make it’s way in here somehow.
I hope this isn’t the last we see of Pishface! I liked disliking him. An original new character from TEAM TRACY! All in all this has been an enjoyable story.
So, Chum Lee cops a plea—or, at least, rats out Phishface’s evil plan for Sam. And, indeed, the sometimes-Gray Goon is looking more normal in hue today. This certainly seems conducive to getting Sam out of hot water in time….I’ll take a pass on the Scooby references, since I wasn’t a watcher (but thanks for the links, Tarry).
Can it please turn out that Phishface’s first name is Charles? I want to hear Dick say “Sorry, Charlie,” when he realizes the cuffs are on too tight. It’s the sort of gaff any one-handed cop could make.
what can i say? great story with a nice even pace, and it didnt seem rushed. chum should get a lighter sentence since he is more than willing to rat out phishface…. but what about the dude at the sushi place? he MUST have known that phishface wasnt on the up and up? maybe vitamin flintheart will invest in sushi bars now lol
Ah, a nod to Staton’s work on the Scooby Doo comics for DC Kids. Excellent story, as always. It would be interesting to see Team Tracy work the Lensmen series in the strip, as a nod to Joe’s work on Green Lantern. Ah, well… I can dream, can’t I?
Y’know, if Chum hadn’t said anything, Tracy and co wouldn’t have a clue Sam was in the tank – and even if somebody had seen the suit, they’d have probably thought it was a decoration. Phishface came close to a perfect murder – if and when Sams’ body was found, an autopsy would have shown he died of suffocation, but no evidence of him being in the tank.
“Shut up, Chum!” as in “don’t tell the cops we’re about to kill one of them”, and the next second: “you’ve got no case, Tracy!.” From where I stand, Tracy has a pretty adamant case here.
Woo-who! the meddling kids line! does the happy dance I’ve been expecting it since the dog came in! Scooby, dooby, doo…..actually since the new team came on board!
Hilarious! I was not a fan of this particular story until I saw today’s panel three. Talk about redemption. Nice job Team Tracy!DT has become a fascinating mix of styles and cultural homages. Staton’s artwork drives this home all the time; I have noted his channeling Kirby and Robbins in the past, and now I want to go back and see other artists he’s paid tribute to. (Hope to see more Kirby and Robbins in the future!)I’m ready for a less light-hearted story line the next time around.
You always find a way to throw cold water on things, even while you are giving a tongue-in-cheek compliment. How long are you going to harbor that jealousy because all the time spent under Locher’s desk was for naught?
Some poster here think they know your real ID. I confess that I don’t know, but I do know that your are NOT DL. DL is a gentleman and far too smart to write such silly drivel. Please stop pretending you are DT.
@Tarry PlaguerTarry, any way we can get rid of Still Da Man?He can’t keep his word and go away quietly.I know it’s probably best if we resist the urge to respond to him. Then we can just skip his whining when we read the comments.Still…
You said ;“I had hoped it would last a little longer, have some intrigue. . .”Me too!You said:“It is too hard to portray this kind of police work this way and maintain interest.”Why? Many of us have said, repeatedly, that we would gladly follow a longer story, with clues and chase sequences, if this new team were given the freedom to have a go at that kind of a story. I noted in yesterday’s comments that Chester Gould’s stories averaged three months each, and people couldn’t wait for the next day to see what would happen next. I am confident that Mike and Joe could pull off a story like that, if TMS would get out of their way.
IF THIS ARC IS FINISHING UP, IT’S A SHAME AND A DIRECT EXAMPLE OF "THE POWERS ABOVE’’ SCREWING UP A GOOD THING. WE HAVE A GREAT VILLAIN, A DECENT RACKET, A DETECTIVE IN JEOPARDY, AND SUDDENLY IT’S AS IF A BRICK WALL AROSE TO STOP ALL PROCEEDINGS. WHERE’S THE CHASE? WHERE’S THE RESISTANCE? SOMEONE ABOVE COMMENTED THINGS SEEMED RUSHED, AN ASTUTE OBSERVATION. ONCE AGAIN GUYS YOU GET AN A FOR CREATIVITY, ART AND EFFORT, BUT IF THIS STORY IS OVER OR JUST LEFT HANGING, IT’S JUST BLAH. TOO BAD
Heck, Tarry !. I’m not ‘fighting’ anyone ! ;-) I’ve simply ‘quoted’ a reference, an accurate bit of DT strip trivia ! On the other hand, it’s been “challenged” as incorrect – with an explicit statement here :
“That was the official name of Mugg’s grandfather. I’m pretty sure this one is just called ‘Mugg’ ".
(Now Tarry, you just “modified” his statment by saying that you both “doubt”, it’s the same dog) Hmm ! Doubt and Certinty could be miles apart ?
Jim’s meaning is clear, unambigious ! And the scary part, it’s coming with something resembling a “factoid” (?) – While the only VERIFIABLE ‘identity’ (name) clue, is put on a shelf and a fresh one (without historic foundation) substituted, pointedly infering it’s a grandson instead (?) Well of course THAT’S a ‘possibility’, no one said it was far fetched, just noticed there’s no published evidence to certify that ! ? That’s why I had asked if - the Authors** were aware of it ? Thought they were the ones who called those shots.? Seems, had they felt the need to “distinguish” this Mugg as a ‘descendant’, a ‘simple’ sentence would’ve done the trick (?) A minor matter, but have we a little step over the boundry here ?
Then Tarry, you’ve come introducing additional perspectives, you’ve “flavored” that Flaky Biscuites introduction, as an animal “who had just been made a police dog”, while the only thing codified as NEW was the Dog’s drug sniffing capability. And without any "evidence from that Flaky Biscuits encounter, you insert your own “assumptions”, claiming that the Mugg there – “wasn’t an old veteran, but ’the new dog on the beat, so to speak”. And “speculate” further – about Tracy giving puppies to be raised ??
No offence, but that’s like me walking on the Moon with Neil Armstong – and seeing Trees !
Lets look back, Flakey Biscuits – 5-14-11 as Mugg’s re-introduced (with Officer Doherty), we see present an – Officer Milligan (he’d been around – since 1931). Sort of wondered, had I presumed – too old, making an “assumption” that this couldn’t be the same man, would I have a Q.E.D, that it’s his son !. Could I take that as money to the bank ? ?
Jim’s alway’s been a “stickler” for calling, known, hard-core histotic events, in Dick Tracy as – “canon” !
Why ? If I’d done the Milligan thing, he might be the first ’putting pen to paper. to correct me ! ;- )
And I do agree, it’s wonderful to have a Mugg back again, but even better, with Officer Jim Doherty as his handler. Happily, Jim’s moving closer to being a REGULAR. With a shade more accuracy and good performance, who knows he may fill that vacant Jonny Adonis spot on the MCU ? More so now, Lt Teevo’s moved on to another place !
Otto Baron suggested looking back to March 13, 2011, which I did. Then I read forward, and started rereading the first story by Mike and Joe. Everybody was so excited about the new art, we missed an “Easter Egg” on March 15. Mike is a Superman fan – and when Tracy arrives at HQ and says “What’s up, Chief” to Lizz, she replies “First, DON’T call me Chief!”
