I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop – finding Sparkle (and the note), Junior’s call to Tracy, Smith’s call to Tracy, Gertie’s call to Tracy…and whatever Frankenstein, I mean Bardoll, is going to do.
Mysta is a liar. I think that is number 3 for her. I still like her but with her reputation building like this … she won’t be around long. One of my buddies said that eye candy like that is usually ugly to the bone. I think that I do understand what he was trying to say. But on the surface she sure is cute.
So, now we know that, as a security guard, Retik sleeps on the job! Other news that isn’t:
Among the commentators, there doesn’t seem to have been much persuasion going on.
Moon Main foes are, largely, still foes while Moon Maid fans are still fans.
Foes still believe that Mysta is a fake, while fans still believe that she is real! And this is understandable, too: A fake Moon Maid would have to be written out of the story line in rather short order, unless they want her for a new villain. Too bad the fate of a real Moon Maid is far less certain.
Bottom line: Mike and Joe have tossed enough bones for both camps to believe what they want to believe.
Moon Maid is Curtis and Staton’s biggest gamble, threatening to alienate what appears to be the binary universe of Dick Tracy, those who want Moon Maid and those who don’t. Where is it going? How will it wind up?
It’s the crossovers that will tell us.
Correct me if I’m wrong (please!), but I seem to remember John Russell as a Moon Maid fan, but with her lying, he may be falling away. Willie07, another staunch Moon Maid fan, has been talking about something called “replicants,” which, to me, is another possibility, but would generate yet another fake Moon Maid. And a fake Moon Maid will not last.
But the most interesting potential crossover is Mikeyj: He is a Moon Maid foe, yet seems to be getting interested in where this story is going.
Count me as still one who wants Moon Maid to rejoin the cast of characters – but I am not a “crossover.” Unless Mike and Joe botch this story so bad that I, too, have to throw in the towel and want her gone again!
Perhaps “botch” isn’t the right word, but for now, I’m at a loss for words. Let’s just say that I want Moon Maid back, but not as a new villain. And don’t worry, Moon Maid foes, I don’t want a return to the Space Era, per se; my interest is solely Mysta, who potentially paints an interesting story and asks a most curious question: What becomes of loves and wives lost, believed to have died, but didn’t?
Man you should run for office. You know how to play both sides of the street. ;-) In the meantime, there’s no office to run for here. We love Dick Tracy and enjoy expressing our opinions, that’s all. :) You’re a Mysta fan like most of us, so tell us what you want to see and what you think of the art and the daily clues and quit worrying so much about what the “foes” think of you.
As for Mysta, ain’t no way she’s a villain, mate. That’s my opinion as a fan but I’m 99% sure it’s right. She’s a pawn being used by the villains Sail, Ghote and now Bardoll. What she wants out of this appears to be what the genuine Mysta would want. Her family and life back, that’s all. Like any of us would. She’s scheming yes and that adds spice to the story. And it remains to be seen who she is exactly. But an “evil” character? No way.
Mysta’s magic milkshake?Mysta drives away from Honeymoon’s home as Junior arrives. Junior gets on his Wrist Wizard and alerts Tracy (and, we assume, the entire Metro PD) of Moon Maid’s location. So, how is it that Mysta not only arrives back at the Apollo without drawing the attention of police, but has time to stop off for a milkshake? I’m thinking she used the drive-thru, but could there be more to this milkshake than meets the eye? Could someone already be aware that Mysta is alive? Could Mysta be working undercover to thwart a criminal enterprise? Might her contact in law enforcement have provided the milkshake, while ensuring that she was able to return to the Apollo undetected? Could Mysta’s undercover work be the reason that she is not yet ready for face time with Junior? I could be as far off base as the distance between Tracyville and the destroyed Moon Valley, but speculation is fun and chocolate milkshakes are tasty. The zapping of Sparkle argues against the undercover theory, yet who says an undercover “mole” can’t mix personal business with police work?A long-shot, granted. But this story is so fun and complex that anything is possible. Mysta would need a very good reason to remain at the Apollo and avoid revealing herself to family and friends, especially now that she appears to be fully healed/regenerated/recovered. Undercover work is a real possibility, however remote. The drive-thru is open for milkshakes and speculation.
yumpinyiminey: Mostly, I’m aware of how strongly some people hold their opinions. We have those who have artwork of Mysta as their postage stamps and at least one who has a picture of Sparkle and Junior’s wedding as his postage stamp.
Granted, this is Dick Tracy, and the “meat” of Dick Tracy is hard crime drama (something we haven’t had a lot of lately). And the story I hope to see, about loved ones believed dead, but not really, may not be suitable for Dick Tracy.
Still, I’m hanging on to see where this story goes.
Me too. I picked this one from the Piggy Butcher story. This is from when Moon Maid zapped Piggy and helped capture him. Piggy’s the one saying “C’mere babe.” I still can’t believe I didn’t win.
I think Mysta’s being portrayed as too sympathetic a character to be evil and there seems to be an awful lot of investment in her POV for a throwaway character. I’m thinking this is an All A Big Misunderstanding storyline intended to reintroduce a long-term character with maximum drama. So far, we’ve seen that Mysta loves her daughter, at least doesn’t hate her husband for “abandoning” her, tried mightily only to stun Sparkle despite seeing her as a homewrecker, seems to like Stella and Retik despite lying to them, and generally just wants her old life back. That doesn’t sound like a villain to me and Tracy villains are usually pretty…uh…villainous. I think Mrs. Flattop is lots of fun, for example, and perhaps even a bit understandable in her motivations for revenge. But she’s still pretty evil. Mysta isn’t.

And when you get to Diet’s place Stellaluna, best stay in the car and keep the motor running. It’s likely to get ugly in there.

I like Moon Maid so much that I just kept it going. That’s probably true of others, too.
Same, here (and I was part of that contest, too) — my “postage stamp” came from a rare, cameo appearance in 1973 during the “Peanutbutter” storyline.
