DT twirling the nightstick reminds me of my youth when the patrolmen walked their beats and twirled their nightsticks. I suspect that they were “entertaining” us with their skills! It was safe back then.

Well, Annie had a plan for Stage 1, now it’s Tracy’s turn to plan Stage 2. I wonder what he’s got in mind. I wonder how well guarded their “island prison” is. Apparently, well enough guarded that Tracy couldn’t get there in a conscious state.

That twirling baton makes me think that Dick Tracy is starting to enjoy his small town constable persona.

Lately Tracy’s plans have done a lot better than several years ago….this should be interesting.

Axel is in for a big (and very unpleasant) surprise very soon, which will hopefully teach him just exactly why crossing swords with Dick Tracy is an incredibly bad idea!

In Baltimore, MD nightsticks were called espantoons.

How many of the townsfolk are victims just like Tracy and Annie and how many are part of Axel’s ruse? The entire village may need to be rescued, not just the two of them.

The exit should be in Axel’s newspaper office (he’d want it handy). Maybe when they escape we’ll find out just where they are.

I’ve wondered if Axel’s programmed the locals to do some work for him at night (they seem normal during the daytime). If that’s the case, Tracy should see what’s happening.(I know, it’s an old premise we’ve seen before, but right now, I’m desperate for an explanation!)

Where did Axel get the resources to set this all up, and keep it hidden? I’m wondering if he isn’t just a manager for someone else.

I nominate RJ, the raccoon from Over the Hedge. His eyes are a dead giveaway! Is he an escapee from an earlier Annie episode?

Officer Tracy twirls that billyclub like an old pro beat copper. It makes a nice visual analogue to the “gears turning in his head” mentioned by DaJellyBelly. But how can he and Annie formulate an escape plan until and unless they understand more fully the nature of their “prison”?

My problem with this story is that I keep wanting to turn the page, and see what happens next.

You know what would be interesting? If both Dick and Annie both ran into their past selves since both comic strips were created before the 40s.

There’s still something here that I don’t get. On Aug 2, Annie specifically told Tracy not to look at the decoder badge when the radio show was on, because that’s how Axel controls everyone. Yet, on Sunday, they both looked right at it and decoded the “commercial” message, without falling back under the spell. Now, Tracy is acting as if that part of the mystery is all cleared up. ?
