“The jig is up,” so to speak. Warbucks calls it an elaborate plot. He’s certainly got that right!

Funny that Axel figures his troops would keep Warbucks’ gang away from Kenyon, when it was actually the Warbucks’ gang that kept the troops away from Kenyon. (Well, Warbucks and his allies, at least.)

I wonder if Punjab did a little “Poof The Magic Blanket” on those troops?

I’ve loved this story from the beginning and really love this ending. I appreciate the candor of posters like cheapskate0 who had some problems with it, but I, for one, can say that it was no disappointment in any way. Of course, I know that y’all would expect that from an Annie fan, but I’m also a Dick Tracy fan and from that viewpoint as well, I think this was the best comic arc I have read in years.

Gee I kinda wanna see Axel with something up his beard that’ll wipe that smirk off of “Daddy’s” face! As someone who has consistently expressed my feelings that this crossover story has gone on way too long it would be a crime if it ends with a whimper like today’s.

Are we sure this is Dick Tracy? Where is the cast of Team Tracy?

Speaking s someone who has only a passing knowledge of Annie, and who also came to this strip only after reading some of the classic Tracy collections recently, while I respect the opinions of those who disliked the strip (emphasis on well-thought out opinions, not whining about pacing) I found this strip easy to follow and even without a complete knowledge of everyone’s backstory, enough was revealed to make even this casual fan comfortable with the story. I enjoyed it a lot and I’m looking forward to following more (and more normal) adventures after this story ends.

The fat lady of lore may be moving to the stage (displacing Vitamin), but I can’t say I hear her singing just yet. It is an especially fine middle panel today. Great faces! Seeing the Annie cast together again is sweet. The strip is getting the send-off it deserved but was denied, thanks to the ingenuity of Team Tracy. While Thunder Island is indeed in the here and now, time travel research is underway at Smith Industries (and elsewhere). I am looking forward to seeing this put in play down the road. Audience anticipation adds an essential spice to Tracyville.

kn ow wha the most funniest (intentional) part about this story is?

the ONLY person with any sort of jurisdiction to be able to arrest axel is Fritz Ann… what would ahpened if The “Warbuck Crime Unit” HADNT called her in?

oh yeah… “P-Jabby” woulda sent Axel away the same way he did with the Butcher.

what would be BREAT would be if, at the eventual end of this story (IF it ever gets here!) fritz ann turns to tracy and says “Oh yeah, by the way Tracy… I understand that you let an escaped convict who also just happens to be on the FBI’s wanted list.. escape. Care to explain that?”

but we ALL knwo that wont happen! just like we all know mayor Armstrong ISN’T gonna be brought up on any kind of bribery charges either.

tho THAT would be a great ending to this story… Mayor Armstrong removed from office and prosecuted on bribery charges, and Ollie Gotbucks prosecuted on bribery charges alongside her. Ollie FINALLY gets his “lil girl” bqack and he ends up in Federal Prison for bribery! lol!

I am not a fan or reader of Annie, but I like this strip crossover idea. In my opinion at this point in the story the only things which don’t add up are the references to time travel and the elaborate plot Axel devised just for an explosive. Nearly everything else was explained and the story moved along pretty well. Most important to me is that the ending hasn’t been rushed and is apparently complete. I think its one of the better stories from the new Tracy regime.

Case of the Missing Finger Nails: Check out the final panel of Annie on 6-13-2010, the final Annie strip. Daddy Warbuck is holding up his right hand and we see his finger nails; however, they are appearing on the wrong side of his hand. Case solved! Couldn’t figure out how to post the picture; perhaps someone can.

Folks, at first I had my doubts that the crossover would keep my attention. I had been a Tracy-ite all my life, and had never read a complete Annie strip. But this thing started to take shape, and captured my interest all by itself, and not from the comments here. I appreciate the serious analysts, as well as the comedy team, but the story took a masterful shape and is ending well. Team Tracy, you did well! (standing ovation!)

I’ve also really enjoyed this story, and have no complaints about the pacing.(My problem was that we only get one strip a day! I wanted to keep reading.)The super-complicated plot seems more reasonable as I think on it. Axel is like Wiley Coyote, a self-styled “super-genius,” who can over-think a problem until it’s so complex, it’s sure to topple just from it’s own weight. And the story isn’t over yet… (that soprano back stage is just gargling, she’s not ready to sing.)

The Annie Musical Worst show song ever—-Tomorrow, and it had little or no relation to the Gray strip. BTW, there’s a new version of Annie due in Theaters around Xmas.Possibly to coincide with the end of this arc) Stars Jamie Foxx and the youngster from Beasts of the Southern Wild. It, like the Musical, probably won’t have any relation to the strip. Now, for the further adventures of Little Orphan Dicky, let’s move on.

Axel’s game is over. But there is still a lot of cleaning to be done. The Simmons Corners people need to be deprogrammed, for example. And what are Sam and Fritzie doing while we focus on Tracy and the Warbucks team?

    1) DIET

When asked if his experiment involved time travel, Diet merely said, “Heh!” He neither confirmed or denied it. The Philadelphia Experiment which he was trying to recreate probably never happened, but most of the rumours involve travel over space, rather than time. Time travel remains a possibility, but it’s far from conclusive.

    2) VITAMIN (June 28) : “But in the case of my friend Richard, the question is not where is Dick Tracy, but when.”

That there’s a question of what time period we are in (which you have to admit was true) doesn’t in any way confirm that “time travel” would be part of this story.

    3) WARBUCKS (July 21) : " . . . I mean you’re not the only one doing this kind of work"

Some would argue that the U.S. government was doing this kind of work at the time of the alleged Philadelphia Experiment. They may have been doing something strange on Thunder Island, too. I’m not sure he was implying any of the characters in the present story were doing such things, though it’s a possibility.

    4) ANNIE (July 31) : "Mr. Tracy if we are really in 1944,. How could they ever find the TIME? "IF they were in 1944, the rescuers would have needed to locate them in the right time period, but we, as well as Annie, have now concluded that they are not actually in 1944. At the time of this quotation, Annie wasn’t sure.

Last year, Mike and Joe kept us in suspense all summer wondering if Moon Maid had actually been brought back and it turned out she hadn’t. This year we’ve been in suspense all summer wondering it time travel had occurred and it certainly looks like it hasn’t.

Last year, Vitamin seemed to imply that one his good friends might die, but I don’t think any of them did. This year, Vitamin seemed to imply that there might be time travel, but it doesn’t seem like there is.

Mike is essentially following the same modus operandi as last year.
