No doubt, Honeymoon not only has lunar horns, but also lunar power. Quite the turning point both for her and the story. Also, great job today, Pequod77. Well done!
Before Honeymoon came the original Honeymoon — Junior and Moon Maid’s, on the moon of course. :) This is the October 15, 1964 daily. Some of Gould’s best art here, in my opinion. Junior’s sweet talk is amusing, but even more fun is the reminder that moon people live a very loooong time. Lunar DNA is obviously potent, as we’re learning in this current story. I’m wondering what other lunar powers and abilities Mysta and Honeymoon will eventually gain?
I think I know why they use Japanese honorifics. Honeymoon uses them because Mysta uses them, and Mysta uses them because she sees all Earth cultures in equal measure. Indeed, it’s likely that she considers herself not a Lunar-American, but a Lunar-Earthling.
Well, I think I see where this is leading- eventually back to the story of the missing moon people. Wherever they are, Mysta and Honeymoon are likely to begin being able to communicate with them.
The gold intrudes on Tracy’s moments of peace. Chief Patton is again being pressured by Mayor Armstrong, who is probably being pressured by D.C. Enjoy the moment, Mysta and Honeymoon, because things will surely start going downhill from here.
Well, the use of Japanese honorifics is still a nice touch, but Honeymoon got it backwards today (or is there something else going on here? Today she has Mysta’s antennae and Annie’s eyes?!)
Like many young anime fans, Honeymoon’s grasp of Japanese honorifics is wobbly. .Also, someone will have to tell Mayor Armstrong that Diet Smith shut down his time machine, so she can’t have the gold “yesterday.”
Blissful Sunday morning Moon and Star Lovers everywhere. A Special greeting to Gweedo, Vista Bill and Rikkie. -——-Now back to finding that gold.-——-I’m headed out shortly to have breakfast with my pastor and his wife. Have a prosperous day my friends.
It’s a less serious matter, and JonathanK has already spotted it . . . Perhaps our DT colleague Ken in Ohio might wish to take note too (panel 1) . . . Seems it wasn’t quite as simple as Junior taking his own MCU mug home to use (or even ‘wash’ it), but it looks as if he’s “annexed” (appropriate word?) a ‘Small Case’ for home use - which he has just ‘broken open’ for the occasion ?
If Avenger hadn’t been in the middle of a peace pact with his other ‘namesake’, he might have jotted down a note to ‘address’ the ethical breech, in a questionable appropriation
Also, the gold is referred to as “Federal Gold” here – Is that adjective apropos, given it was actually the gold reserves of another (… South American?) country being shipped?
Annie goes to a school? She’s not privately tutored? Of course, the tutor would probably be caught up in the same trouble as she would… (Can’t you just see the teacher’s face, reading her “What I Did Last Summer” essay?)
Mayor Armstrong shouldn’t instruct the Chief to find the missing gold; instead, someone ought to find the missing MCU. It seems the scent went cold when Tracy decided the tunnel was too long to check out, and he’d rather go riding in a chopper instead. Great poem today, PQ.
I’m very pleased to see Honeymoon growing and changing. A few years back, I was concerned for her as she rode in the back of BB’s van. Our young detective was showing moxie even then. Her friendship with Mysta is now an essential part of the strip. Both are changing in ways that bode well for captivating stories.Interesting speculation yesterday on the Governor and the intriguing graveside visit of the Lunarians (10/19/13). I’m sticking with my theory that the timing of the visit was no coincidence. A disturbance in the force? There is plenty we don’t know about Lunarian physiology. The DNA is having its way with both Mysta and Honeymoon. With their numerous powers, I suspect the Lunarians’ visit to Wildwood was prompted by Moon Maid’s DNA having been activated. Puzzled and troubled by telepathically sensing that which should not be, the Lunarians are not aware of Ghote and Sail’s misappropriation of their daughter’s DNA. They know far better than the (now deceased?) doctors the full power of Lunarian physiology. For me, the graveside gathering is cause for hope. Mr. Curtis does not strike me as a writer to pour salt in fans’ wounds. While many of us were initially crestfallen that Moon Maid was not back in the manner we’d have preferred, Mike was playing the long game. “Mysta Reborn” may take more than a couple of chapters to sort out all the ramifications of the doctors’ work. We see exciting, ongoing changes for Mysta and Honeymoon. Wherever they are, I suspect the Lunarians’ eventual contact with Mysta will have a profound impact on her transformation. As Ray points out, the ongoing changes make this contact inevitable. I’m looking forward to it. Also, to Honeymoon’s ongoing transformation and adventures. What a great character!
Thanks to Willy007, Vista Bill, Night-Gaunt49, cpalmeresq, Jonathan K. (well done!), Chris Sherlock, ave09 (you were thanked in advance: speck & beam), Morrow, Ray Toler, John Russell (Nice use of Psalm 23. I’m a young and vigorous 56) and JPuzzleWhiz for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
What a great strip today!I love the art, with Mysta and Honey both having the electric blue horns and little lightning bolts. The strip also implies that there are no Lunarians on Earth, as Mysta hadn’t communicated with any before. (Of course, they may have been able to shield their thoughts. We don’t know.)—I can see jealous kids accusing Honey of getting telepathic help on tests.
I’d speculated awhile back than the Lunarians might have resettled upon Jupiter’s moon, Europa which would allow them to (… Technically) remain “Moon People.”
Coincidentally, the Space Coupe’s last reported position was in the vicinity of Jupiter, where it very easily could have been towed into just such a settlement by Lunarian vehicles.
If so, has the crew been feeding the Lunarians misinformation which might eventually lead to the attack upon Diet Smith Industries as foreshadowed by Project Blue Image?
Guessing that’s the 100th Anniversary Story.
And Time Travel might well be involved, both forward and back.
“Rolling” Patton’s EYES back to the Early Thirties ?
Haven’t seen “them” this big in a Long Time, and can’t attribute it to any apprehension over Mayor ArmstrongSeems the ‘technically’ better Artists on the Tracy strip felt the need on occasion to do a “reach back” for a FEEL of Gould’s more relaxed Cartoon style. In the first decade (+) both Patton and Junior had Billiard Ball eyes which have subsequently been modified with strip maturity.
Certainly Rick Fletcher on many occasion, did his own “reach backs” to Gould art, but never quite as convincingly’ as Staton has managed

There were a few comments in regard to my suggestion that Antarctica could be a possible location for the moon people. We know that Lunarians are adaptable to weather extremes and that being so isolated could come and go as they pleased with less chance of discovery. Of course they could be in other places too and anyone’s theory is as good as another. However, I lean toward the moon people being somewhere on Earth and may be monitoring what is going on. A base of Europa or Mars is possible but would still be hostile environments that would need a lot of work.
I don’t understand why the mayor thinks she needs to put all the responsibility of the gold heist on the MCU squad. The MCU was not responsible for train security. This was a federal operation which makes it a federal crime. More likely this would be a FBI investigation but no word of their involvement yet. The MCU should assist but not be in charge. However, I understand this is the Dick Tracy strip so he needs to be in on it. Proper procedure is often discarded for the sake of the story.

Honeymoon is anxious over changes she can’t hide
Comforted by Mysta who dreamt of the tears she cried.
Rushed to be with Honeymoon, her young Imoto-Chan
Telepathy would not let it be. To her friend she ran.
Junior feeling weary after one more sleepless night
Now here is Mysta at his door wishing to set right
All that troubles Honeymoon, the thing they spoke about
Onee-San is deep and wise, her heart both true and stout.
There upon the bedroom wall the past that haunts her dreams
Every day they’re more alike, so much not as it seems.
She never has received before, yet shadows mark her sleep
Vague images of those who mourn a loss that makes them weep.
Those in her dreams it often seems have messages to send
Despite their strife they sense a life they thought was at an end.
